This game REALLY needs currency sinks.
|
I play the game very casually in SCSSF and even despite hardly playing (relatively speaking), I've ended up with dozens or hundreds of some currencies that become, by end game, more or less worthless.
In particular, Lesser Jeweler's Orbs, various quality orbs, non-greater/perfect currencies, and greater runes. Now I'm sure some will say "Don't pick them up then", but what then is the point of currency if you can't use it? This is a loot game after all. A very easy solution to this would be to allow reforging of these currencies into higher tier versions. We have the bench, and it can hold three STACKS of currency, why is it useless here? Let us make a Greater Jeweler's Orb from a stack of Lesser Jeweler's Orbs, for example. Or maybe have an NPC currency exchange similar to that in PoE1? Or hell, even increasing the gold value of vendoring these currencies would be greatly appreciated. As for those wondering why I don't just play trade league, well, I don't want to. Also, I'm very much opposed to the idea of trading being the solution to any problem in the game, just feels like bad game design and should probably be avoided. Please consider and thanks for reading. Last bumped on Jan 11, 2026, 4:08:12 PM

+1
Gold may have caused this problem, before we would convert currency. Not that gold doesn't have a place but the currency conversion system did as well perhaps. Inflation is killer in trade league. It's a real season ending issue for some of my friends that take a few days off, they just don't come back because of inflation, making them kind of pseudo SSF. |

So what you're saying is farm act 4 for jeweler's orbs to save up for a perfect?

" The OP's solution is wrong, because of what you said, but I agree that the problem exists. No currency sink is immersion-breaking. You're telling me I'm a world-class currency alchemist, and I can't figure out what to do with excess currency? Not even a vendor recipe of 20 Lesser Jewel Orbs turning into 1 Exalt? 0.4 SSF: Gemling Minions: https://poe.ninja/poe2/profile/DistributedAutomaton-5739/character/CrystalController

I dont think excess currency should ever be able to be reforged into a higher tier of itself (lesser jewellers - > greater/perfect).
But i think it's fine when converting into a different currency at a rate thats unfavourable early in league. eg, poe1 converting scouring orbs to orbs of regret. At some point the player also has to decide if its worth picking pennies off the ground. "Beidat honored the pact, though Beardat wouldn't take off Doryani’s prototype."

Just face it. They're garbage

" I'll agree there, yes. I just thought the solution used as an example was a little...heh. Trust the playerbase to find the problem, but botch the solution. |
|
" " " So you guys are saying this is a bad idea because... the possibility that someone might farm Act IV for, in all likelihood, several hundred Lesser Jeweler's Orbs to make a single Perfect Jeweler's Orb? Come on, even botters would not bother and would rather aim for more lucrative targets. Or am I missing something? Last edited by D623932883#0055 on Jan 11, 2026, 3:56:14 PM

" Yeah, we don't have people that would do some tedious thing for an advantage, you're right. BRB gonna go farm pre endgame temple to set it up properly. brb abyss brb gonna go do BA runs on poe1 brb gonna go farm for oni goroshi |
|
" All of those things are either far more lucrative (Temple. Abyss) or serve some other purpose that isn't really for profit (BA, Oni-Goroshi). I really doubt anyone would break the game here. Especially when you are directly comparing it to "fine" things like Temple. |
