Unpopular Opinion? Build diversity is still pretty bad.

You kind of contradict yourself halfway into your post “but that’s only because…”

Build diversity is pretty nice I’d say over previous leagues

Is it better than previous leagues if you dont count talisman/druid skills?

Obviously there are more builds now because of the addition of talisman/druid skills but without them I think overall it is pretty much they same. Some things that used to be used are not seeing much play and just replaced with something different.

I usually play melee in POE, I know it is the cause for a lot of my frustrations in the game but it is the style I want to enjoy. The game desperately needs swords, axes, and flails.... IMO Talisman/Druid should have been last so they could have really made it amazing. Having 3 forms is awesome but there really is not build diversity within those due to not having the forms tied to ascendency choice.

Human = Plant or Tornado
Bear = Slam or Calamity (usually together)
Wyvern = Sky laser or ground laser
Wolf = Moonlight is pretty much only build

If you look at them as a whole talismans have the most diversity but as individual forms it is even more limited than the other weapon types.
I mean I'm currently running a Crossbow Ritualist using energy shield+evasion

You need to build conventionally, take what you've learned, and think about other classes, start positions etc, then try building your convetional build on other classes/ascends, options are limitless lmfao, you need to think outside the box...
Yea. it's not unpopular at all. If anything it's kinda well known.

There's clearly good and bad skills in the game and they make +/- 100% difference changes in some of them each league which is just insane. They're obviously not using any type of formula to create skills. You pretty much have to be throwing darts blindfolded to be that off.

It got even worse with the introduction of Elemental Infusions. Given some only combine with certain infusions limits your options. In addition it creates gating to any other spec that might want to splash elemental spells. Since they're no longer worth using without Infusions.

Talisman's made in painfully obvious they want a set-skill class system.
Which of course is going to bore the hell out of anyone who enjoys theory crafting.

Wanted to share my thoughts on the matter. I am not sure if I am correct on this so will be happy with your take on the issue. Plus, some of my frustration with making builds.

I think class diversity is better, but I feel like it's only because the Druid was introduced. And actual build diversity is pretty bad.

Most "builds" are same old things over and over again. Same things from previous leagues plus talismans. CoC Comet, basically spark, etc. And every "build" just has a headhunter. PoE Ninja has lots of variety but those are not builds, most of them just have a bunch of skills that only work because the game is so easy you can do all content naked.

I've been trying to make a few builds for myself, and I am a little frustrated with lots of arbitrary restrictions. Can't use with X, Limit on Y, Doesn't work with X etc. Is this something PoE1 had? Do players have more freedom in PoE1?

I am also not saying that you can't make builds in this game. I am more talking about mechanics having a restriction that is not consistent with anything else and was added just for that one interaction. For example, Gathering Storm being restricted from Ancestral Boost. Why? Just because it can become a decent AOE clear skill that still won't be used by majority of people because of wind up animation.

totaly agree with you. good post.
Development % completed progress bar in general is quite bad. Things are still in the crawling phase. Let them stand up and walk before expecting them to run.
This is because any build outside the mold of the same 2-3 builds gets nerfed out of existence, even though almost none of them could hold a candle to the stupidly broken builds to begin with.

CoC/Autobombing, LA/Deadeye(until this league finally, now replaced with ice shot), and [insert spark variant] builds.

The same 3 types of builds, broken over and over for a year repeating.

Yet, anytime someone finds a build outside of those it gets immediately poofed, even though those builds were 1/10th of the power to begin with.

PConc(any conc period), GA, ice wall/comet, warrior sunder/shatter, lightning spear, and my absolute favorite - Minion builds getting a spectre with a haste aura. Nerfed out of existence, with the minion aura wiped 2 weeks into the league start lmao. Shoulda seen how broken that thing was, had to get that out the game pronto!!!

Hard to have build diversity when GGG has a hard on for getting rid of any diversity outside of what looks like clear bias at this point for the actual brain dead, completely broken builds.

The main problem here is the lack of skill slots. I play a bear/wolf combo build, which does work relatively well, but I could easily use two or three additional skills.

That too. Ice Nova can only work with cold infusions, for example.
