GGG left with NZ$22.6 mil cash (down from NZ$60.8m)

I wouldnt mind supporting the company more if poe 2 was actually good and poe 1 wasnt in maintenance mode.
The better game has less players now which is terrible. Unless some miracle happens I wont be spending cash on poe anytime soon. |

This thread is making me dumber by reading through it. Not because I think I'm above any of you intellectually, but because I don't understand a damn thing any of you are even saying, and the realization of that, has made it so.
If I buy a 12pack of beer with a 20 dollar bill, I know what change to expect back, so I get by. Last edited by I AM SQUINT#8343 on Jan 15, 2026, 11:48:23 PM

" This stuff really doesn't matter to 99% of people anyway. Thread should have died when it was revealed that OP used ChatGPT to get information about the cash positions, but didn't verify if it's correct info. It would matter if the payout to Tencent meant that GGG would have to slow down development but we're talking about a conglomerate moving assets upstream. There were no layoffs, people are getting paid, and they just do business as usual. Total nothingburger and that's all you need to know The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

It's been a long while since we had a GGG doomer thread. I'm feeling nostalgic for the early mid 2010s now when they popped up every few hours with people saying GGG would fail if they didn't bend on [whatever gripe they had].
Thanks for all the fish!

Hate to say it but this is the worst spot to be in for GGG shareholders. Alienate existing audience, yes they've bought in a new audience but for how long?
Current PoE2 doesn't fit many ways people like to enjoy the game. All they can do from this point is work their ass of and continue investing in both games. I won't spend money on PoE2 I'll maybe try the game again at full release but not now, if they genuinely give PoE1 some love they can still make money from that player base. We will be waiting a long time for chris.w new studio to show us what they are working on.. |

" GGG is not a publicly traded company. It's fully owned by Tencent since March 2024. If you find a "GGG" stock, it's a different company. The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

2014 to around 2019-2020 I had 3-4 games in my rotation, now for a few years I've been only playing PoE1 for a month at best every league, and what's worst events like the Gauntlet or latest uber boss kill event, well they end too quick.
Retention matters and more for those that aren't tourists unlike what ArtCrusade claims above, like business as usual, no layoffs, etc. Reality is for many including myself PoE2 0.4 didn't deliver to compensate for the lack of what PoE1 also didn't and through a holiday season. The GGG leadership was aware prior to release what PoE2 0.4 wouldn't deliver, but because of those limited resources, well both games end up disappointed many. Resources available and where they prioritize em it's directly related to what both games will offer outside of leadership choices. The dividends paid, PoE2 development with its ongoing maintenance and how long Settlers lasted did hurt PoE1 retention and that means revenue long term. The latest streamer promoted private "softcore" league by Pohx and others did happen, but outside the boss kill event nothing for the hardcore community through the holiday season. It seems like these streamers look at sites like PoE ninja, where I checked a month ago 85-90% characters were in softcore, but they may forgot that from 3.27 dead hardcore characters are moved to softcore and not the standard league. Further, PoE1 was even a bigger disappointment with how overpowered the tree mechanic was for early progress including the overpowered build / skill that enabled four players to complete the uber boss kill event in 1-2 days. Any dividends paid would have zero effect on GGG's ability to produce content for their games. The costs for a gaming company are relatively fixed and GGG has consistent revenue, unlike some game companies that have to roll the dice on a release that might flop and ruin everything. Tencent has no incentive to destroy the company like a private equity firm might in the west.
Revenue for PoE 1 has likely cratered but I would be shocked if PoE 2's revenue didn't more than make up for the loss. PoE 2 being extremely low quality and undercooked doesn't matter at all. Retention is infinitely high for PoE 2 and all comments everywhere are 99.99999% positive. GGG doesn't have to change anything they're doing. They don't even need PoE 1 anymore and could release 1.0 tomorrow at this point. The market has decided that PoE 2 is the only game in the genre worth playing and all other games are dust. |
