Ascendancies in PoE 2 feel worthless!
|
I think the problem with PoE 2 Ascendancy is that most of the nodes don't work together for many builds.

They suffer from GGG being unwilling to lock them into very specific archetypes like 1,but because of that they end up feeling like a small inclusion rather than a major power boost.

I agree, ascendancies feel pretty generic and random in poe2. I think the reason behind that was giving you the possibility to play whatever you want with any class.
I liked in poe1 that ascendancies were giving the class some character, personality amd some kind of direction, it helped you to build your character in a specific direction and to push it as much as you can. It simply feels good. Unfortunatly the character idendity thing is not given in poe2, at least not for me. I am not a big fan of the poe2 ascendancy system, I think too much freedom can also kill a game and make it feel like that it doesn't really matter what you play cause everything feels the same. I mean you can see that issue by them refusing for example to make a proper minion class, they don't wanna people to go in a specific direction with an ascendancy class, they want every class being able to play as everything in the game. This idea is nice in theory, but feels bad in practice. Last edited by Afura#6483 on Jan 21, 2026, 10:10:38 AM

" There is no point. The game is classless. |

Oracle - Inevitable Crits and Hidden Paths, and hjonestly, the ability to allocate passive points to other nodes without connecting to them is under rated
Shaman - Rage Generator and Or Apocalypse Pathfinder - I dont play it but seeing as its meta, I assume its got to b e quite amazing Blood Mage - Currently the top meta for COC Comet. DeadEye- well may not be as good as it once was ,but was godly at its peak Those are just the ones I know because its the classes I have played. I dont know , if you ask me , ascendancies feel anything but worthless. Finally the point is that they are supposed to be usable with any class ( or at least as many as possible, so that way you can have some interesting off-meta combinations for those that like to go d own thhat rabbit hole. I do agree some of them can use a little more identity and maybe a bit more useful skills, but I really dont think they all feel useless Last edited by ZaruenVoresu#5823 on Jan 20, 2026, 3:53:57 PM

I agree that some ascendancies feel a little eh, but I disagree on the character identity thing.
That's why I love PoE over Diablo, PoE gives you freedom to do whatever you want. That being said, I do wish the Blood Mage ascension actually gave blood spells. Would love to have blood lances or waves of blood as a skill. Soich potential there. | |
" Don't call them "Druid" or "Ranger" or "Warrior" then, there is zero sense to do so. They should have better given them just names instead: "Jonathan", "Mark"... |
|
" What you're basically saying is that you want the game to make build decisions for you. If anything, the game is TOO restrictive with weapon types and skills. The entire point of Path of Exile is that you make your own combination, not that you pick "Warrior" and are locked out of doing anything but hitting enemies with a club. There are hundreds of games like that, go play them instead. |
|
" I said just what I said. How you are a ranger for example if you never use a bow? How you are a monk if you only shoot with a crossbow? Plain stupid. |
|
" My man here has a point. This makes the class idea actually pointless right, why are there even classes then to begin with if none of that really matters what you play. Last edited by Afura#6483 on Jan 21, 2026, 10:14:11 AM
