Why I think Leagues die so fast
|
I play SSF and the league mechanic is unrewarding and unfun and my brand new high end PC freezes more than my old pc. I am honestly pretty demoralized by the game right now.

i had a very long break in between so i had an amazing time playing this season.
i had about a month of absolute enjoyment. i think any great game has about 1 month ~ 2month life for each individual to fully enjoy. some play little by little. some play constantly. some just start late in league. i think last part is important in 3-4month duration league. people who started 2months late into the league still have time to enjoy the content. i don't think league dies quick. it's just a part of cycle. at some point, your brain needs something new to produce dopamine. |

I think it mostly comes down to status quo.
I mean, when there aren't any 'real' META shifts, and every league starts in a "solved state" with no real forms of explorations or challenges and you're just experiencing the same thing over and over again (with a subpar league mechanic on top), leagues will die fast. To find out why leagues die fast, you have to look at the reasons why people return. People mostly return to experience something new in a fresh environment. When that "new thing" is underwhelming, well... I think PoE1 is in need of a HARD meta shift or a hard atlas rework. And personally, I think the core drop pool sucks. Anyhow, playing for a few weeks and taking a break is healthy for you - and the game... Probably... Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile. " An expedition league like patch is exactly what the game needs in its current state. It would not only refresh the meta, but also breathe new life into the experience by scaling back player power and making content feel exciting again. It is difficult to surpass the current Atlas, as it was exceptionally well designed even in the first vesion. The amount of control it gives players over the content they choose to engage with is one of its greatest strengths. That said, the endgame is beginning to show its age. A new endgame system that players can sink time into feels long overdue, especially since the Atlas tree itself has been around for quite some time. " The atlas itself is good, but they could use the template and build something new. They could scrap the Eater, the Exarch and Maven - and add new "influences" to the map device that alter the maps in new, interesting ways. The new Zana/Eagon questline is bad - in every way, and should be scrapped (IMO). It doesn't add anything of value to the game. And I agree, the agency the atlas provides is awesome and probably one of the main reasons why I can't touch PoE2's endgame with a ten foot pole before it lets me choose what content to run and how to run it. But that freedom is just a smokescreen when the options aren't even close to balanced. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

personally i feel its more of a saturation issue.
even in mtg, after existing for years, when the company has introduced 1001 innovative game mechanics, they will eventually end up where the newer mechanics feel similar to older ones. [Removed by Support]

imho, ggg ever got it wrong with their trade system in general.
and, although their strength has always been to rethink the tech which all other games have from the ground up and try it differently, they didn't have the balls to try this one i posted around 10 years ago: -- players advertising items they want to sell is actually not good for the game: everybody posts his junk, the trade database is filled with stuff nobody wants (otherwise it would have been sold) and the horrific amount of items on offer is putting downward pressure on the item market which is only partly compensated by the inflation on high end items. people flipping items (buying low, selling high) damage the game cause whatever tech you implement to stop flippers, you can't stop them ripping off unaware, newer players who fall for fake sellers and so on who quit the game if they discover they were ripped off. -- solution: make asynchronous trade not about offering items but placing item requests. a player looking for a item can use the trade system to describe the properties his purchase needs to have and he places the currency he is willing to pay for it in the system. the tech then can either allow him choosing from a set of items other people offered. or the first item which fits the requirement wins the deal. ... when they sold stash tabs for advertising items, the chance of realisation for that system basically went south, and then they missed that idea with poe2 too. downsides: of course players need to be aware what they want and this could be a problem for newer players but it makes people only invest time into trade if they really need something and there is the danger, that by counting the item requests, people might notice that there isn't really a high demand for items in the game in the first place. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

I play 2-4 weeks based on a variety of factors, mainly what my IRL looks like at the time. I'm not interesting in going beyond that. Some of us play fast by intend, and stop when our PoE hunger has been satiated and/or when IRL demands our full attention again.
I get why some people would like us to play longer, so they economy can remain vibrant longer. But given the player activity patterns of almost all PoE leagues ever, there appears to be many like me, for whom that is not of interest, regardless of what initiatives you may propose. Sorry, but also, not sorry. Happy holidays! |

" you think quite highly of yourself if you think me continuing to play the league is dependant on you.. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I will play the league until when I want, and I dont care if you do too or not... go ahead and quit 1 day in the league, ill still play as long as I want regardless. not sure why you think people care when you stop playing and will quit with you? Happy Holidays, don't stroke your own ego too much. Last edited by ZaruenVoresu#5823 on Dec 22, 2025, 7:59:45 AM
