Questions from the tri interview

Johnathan said xp loss exist for the competitive side of play in poe. I would argue there is no competitive play in poe. Yes I understand that hardcore has leader boards but do the leader boards matter in a mode where death is suppose to matter but player just log out log in to cheat death and maintain there place on the leader boards? Would you consider removing it from standard where there are no leaderboards and there is no competitive play. I play poe to get away from all the competitive gameplay and im sure there are other who do to. We are not asking to get rid of competitiveness out of the game but rather a mode for us that dont care about the competitive side of this game.
You also said you dont care about how long we play the game as long as we keep coming back league after league. How do you determine how the players enjoy your game? Personally if a player plays 300 hrs one league but only 10 to 20 hrs the next league that should be an indicator that there was something to the 300 hr league that they enjoyed better then the 10 to 20 hr league Last edited by Foeten5639#8632 on Dec 10, 2025, 5:34:09 AM Last bumped on Dec 11, 2025, 2:53:36 AM

There are leaderboard for non HC characters.
There is a ladder for each type of game mode and that is what Jonathan was refering to. You can see it on the main page of poe2 website under ladder. As for the logout to cheat and avoid death i'm not sure you ever played HC. You cant log out when you get one shot. In fact, many times, you dont even have time to react fast enough to pause/close the game. Softcore can also pause the game to avoid XP death penalty, the punishment is that you loose one portal. It's a feature in the game, you even have a warning when login back in if you decide to log in your hideout instead. SSF player Last edited by BlastYa#4875 on Dec 10, 2025, 7:55:01 AM

" GGG recently paid out a $150 million dividend. That's roughly the total amount of money D4 has raised in its entire existence through microtransactions. (D4 has made much more money through sales of the game.) You sound, um, ignorant, when you say things like that. The game is doing more than fine. XP loss on death is staying (yay!) and it's both good game design and profitable. Evasion-only melee character that can kill Ubers with cheap gear (SSF Rise of the Abyssal), no armor, no energy shield, 62k eHP:

You play online games to get away from the competitive side of the games? Well, I would suggest thinking about what you just said and keeping in mind you are bounded by practical logic, if the small loss of xp is stopping you from playing I suggest learning how to play as this game is not hard sir.So if someone is not playing as many hours, it is good for us as we can remove him.

I think you missunderstand what im saying I did not know there were leaderboards for standard never cared and there are plenty of free to play games that dont balance solely around pvp. Warframe is mostly pve but there is pvp and they change the skills to fit pvp and only inside pvp. I use to log in with my gf and just have fun playing. I dont need to be competitive for that. The reason I asked about play time is bc I know there are players who finish the league in a week or less and quite so how do they determine if that player enjoyed it and just finished and left as opposed to someone who didn't like the league and quite bc of it. Also why is it when someone says something about xp loss you think they are bad or dont know how to play I had a 94 abyssal lich last league I can do it doesn't mean it's not annoying. Also why do you think online gaming is tied to competitive play? There's tons of online games that dont have leaderboards or anything in the way of competitive gameplay

" You missed one thing. He also said it is there to avoid corpse throwing (for reaching any of the desired goals). " He said that because they get like 80% of their revenue in the first 2 weeks every league. This is when people buy mtx and supp packs. So what they really care for is increasing league start player numbers. This is the most important metrics for them. If the game is bad you just don't return every league. If you do, then you somehow enjoy it. Last edited by Azimuthus#1135 on Dec 10, 2025, 4:50:04 PM

XP loss doesn't prevent corpse throwing. Losing juiced maps, keystones, etc stops that. I don't really care about XP loss, it's everything else that comes with death that needs to go.
Let those of us who aren't young and/or have the time and skills to enjoy your game content. We aren't trying to compete for some virtual billboard, we just want to play. |

" having xp loss on death forces u to try to build ur character defensive as well as dealing damage. Its all in all good for the game. |

" Every game has a difficulty threshold. Do you think Dark Souls would be as iconic if there was an easy mode where you cant die? |
