Day 1 : WSAD Mega Debate Thread!!!
" You don't get it. I play PoE2 only WSAD, I hate Click To Move, at the same time I wish PoE2 didn't have WSAD. It's probably blows your mind, but the reason is you just don't GET IT. On Probation Any%

" That take makes zero sense? I also play PoE2, and I’ve leveled multiple melee builds into the 90s, plus one to 100. Melee is totally fine. If anything, it could use a slight bump in movement speed while ranged could stand to lose a bit, and balance would be perfect. You keep repeating this weird “I hate WSAD, wish PoE2 didn’t have it”, but I still use it and hate CTM line like it’s a flex, but it just exposes that you’re comparing it to the wrong thing. I think its obvious you’re still stuck on the D3 argument from someone else, but that doesn’t apply here. PoE2 already proved direct movement works, it’s smooth, it’s balanced, and it feels great. You don’t need to “get it.” You just need to admit you’re clinging to outdated logic because you can’t defend CTM on anything other than outdated arguments and one sentence replies. |

" The fact that my post doesn’t make sense to you just shows that you lack understanding of indirect effects and all the implications that come with them. You simply don’t have the knowledge or insight to see how certain changes, seemingly irrelevant to the whole matter, can have serious consequences. On Probation Any%

WASD is not the same as controller though. With WASD you can move in one direction and fire in the complete opposite direction though in PoE1 you cannot move while casting and still have to stutter step. It is still OP and would have to be the default control scheme over clicking. Using the mouse to move left while also casting right is much more difficult than just holding A while hovering your mouse to the right side of the screen to cast whenever you want.

" The key to good communication is brevity, a concept clearly lost on you. Best of luck in life. General discussion gaming forums are almost always a cesspit of ignorance and trolls.

Wild that you’re lecturing anyone on communication when your posts read like rejected fortune-cookie quotes. Anyway, enjoy the thread.

" No, you just act indignant over pointless shit. You're overanalyzing this in a weird way. It's just a game and it wouldn't be ruined if we had WASD movement. This is a change that any reasonable and sane person wouldn't have any issue with. |

" So you say that Game Director was all wrong about this in Path of Exile 2, and massively reworking the game for this change was mistake? On Probation Any% Last edited by Dxt44#4050 on Nov 13, 2025, 3:34:03 AM

" alot of people kind of miss out this important bit. its significant. regular joypad users need to "look back" at where they need to aim. separating movement from targeting is crazy huge advantage. if we were to translate WASD vs controller support in POE to FPS it would be akin WASD = modern fps, can move and aim independently and can even strafe fire Controller support = Quake 1/old fps default KEYBOARD ONLY movement. for those that dont know how it used to be like. we didnt use WASD. we used UDLR, we used left ctrl to fire. mlook was a huge jump in tech that blew many peoples minds as most of the gamers back then tend to use keyboard only for fps, even back in doom. back when people were used to DOS a lot of people primarily used keyboard only. but those who found out how to utilize MKB config, suddenly they can quickly turn, aim/look up and down easily. get rid of left and right keys for turning and replacing them with strafing. its a HUGE jump in advantage. players suddenly was a lot faster and could do much more. they were no longer turning left and right slowly, but were rapidly making a lot of fast movements. especially when they incorperated strafing. they were taking sharp corners faster. strafe circling was a thing. the bar for competitive fps was raised forever. so yeah. WASD support in poe1 could change a lot of balance similarly. but the reality is, it cant happen yet simply because the way poe1 is coded is to "attack without movement". you cant attack and move at the same time, except for certain skills. most skills require you to stop moving to fire off your attack. POE2 has this ability built in. POE1 does not. controller support is just a work around or simple translation. if you dont mind wasd being a simple translation. i believe ggg can do it. just it wont feel the same as poe2. EDIT: it can potentially feel bad too, as controller base means you need to aim where you fire using your movement. its easier for controller as you can make them turn in a direction you want specifically. for WASD you will be more or less locked to UDLR and diagnals. aiming precisely anywhere in between can be hard and if you're constantly tapping different movement inputs, you might fire off your attack in an awkward angle that you didnt intend. LE didnt have WASD by default but when they implemented it, they had to invent new tech such as auto retargeting an enemy after moving away from them. Im sure that if/when they are able to they will add it, since its requested by many (including myself), but as stated before, Poe2 was built with wasd planned, poe1 wasent, so im sure there are things they must sort first before its possible. time will tell when it is :)
