Bump and agreed. I use pair of unset rings to have multiple skill interactions. I don't use default attack and shield bash at all although it takes up a skill slot. it is an annoying restriction especially considering now we are free to use multiple gems for scaling. One caveat could be power creep for spirit stackers, having more persistent buffs active at a given time.

I dont think at this point power creep is our concern anymore, people already finishing off end game bosses in less than 1 seconds.
The addition wont change much from already existing outcome. It will just to make fun builds or meme builds viable.. just like me trying to run lich but with mace skills. |

Definitely agree.
I'm only in act 4 and I've already used up all my skill gem slots but still have empty slots in my hotbar. I understand I will get more slots with two unset rings, but it is still not enough. POE 1 had more options and limiting it to just 9+2 is a big mistake. 13 minimum. Or let us remove the default "spear stab" and "spear throw" and similar. For example, I use lightning spear as my default throw, and I use fangs of frost as my default stab, so I have NO use of the two default slots. Let me put my lightning spear over throw and replace it, and when I unsocked it, it will become a regular spear throw again. I dunno. Fix it. |

I also feel very limited by the 9-skill-gems-maximum.
There are many skills that have unique interactions with each-other (such as Lightning Arrow + Lightning Rod) which I'd rather either use both or neither. On the other hand, it is very easy to have 3 skill gems with 3 support gems each, a total of 9 gems, but impractical (leaving very few skill gem slots) to have 6 unsupported skill gems but which would allow various skills to interact with each-other. As I understand, the limit is useful for limiting the power of many skills with many supports. E.g. if it was changed to 11 that would allow not only for 2 more skill gems but for 2 extra x5-supported skill gems, which would largely affect balance. In PoE 1, slots have one shared limit for both support and skill gems, freely allowing trading support gems for extra skill gems and vice versa. I would really like to be able to use 15 skill gems with view support gems, rather than being limited to 9-skill-gems but with more support gems. The situation becomes even more frustrating when Persistent/Spirit skills are also desirable because it isn't possible to split Spirit reservation to various small buffs. I shall also mention that Mercenary's Tactician's "A Solid Plan" ascendancy passive offers "50% less reservation of persistent buffs", which would (and I think that it should) be very promising but its benefits are currently inapproachable due to this limit. I think that the less intrusive solution would be adding a (preferably easily accessible) meta skill gem that would not modify skills at all, but would just allow skill gems to be socketed into its sockets (naturally support gems would also be socketable, which results in a behavior very similar to PoE 1's socketing mechanisms, which I'd really like, but of secondary importance). Overall, the game is interesting and seems very promising, and even though its evident that it's unfinished (due to various bugs and incompletenesses) it motivates for engagement and involvement in improving its state and future. I have not advanced in the game too much but it is evident that this could be very and even more detrimental to customizing builds and overall enjoyment as I advance further. Cheers. |

Without any unset rings, a character has 9 skill gems with up to 9x5=45
support gems. I'd really like to be able to trade some support gem slots for some skill gem slots. I also want to use the 100 spirit for a few small persistent (unsupported) buffs, which is very different to 1 or 2 5-supported ones. I'm waiting for an update on this, I feel too discouraged to continue to endgame unable to use the available skills. Any opinions about this? Does anyone else agree that this is a problem? |

As someone playing a pure minion build, the "only 9 skill gems" thing is already kinda hilarious - and not in a good way for balance.
If you just straight-up add more slots, I don't magically get "more build creativity". I mostly get "more minions", and then each minion gets even stronger from things like Muster. That's not exactly a cute quality-of-life tweak - that's a power multiplier. So yeah, I'm not convinced the solution is simply "raise the cap". That seems like the easiest way to make the already-strong setups go from "strong" to "why is my screen a petting zoo that also deletes bosses". |

" That's why I've suggested a different solution: " . " I've given Lightning Arrow + Lightning Rod as an example: Lightning Arrow + 4 supports is waaay different to Lightning Arrow + Lightning Rod. Similarly: - Poisonburst Arrow + Vine Arrow - Detonating Arrow + Gas Arrow - Toxic Domain + Poisonburst Arrow - Magnetic Salvo + (Lightning rod/etc.) Thus it is obvious that many bow skills are designed to interact with each other. Spirit skills share the same slots as attack skills, so it is not possible to reserve spirit via many unsupported skills without being left with too few skill slots, which eventually does limit build creativity, the alternative being reserving spirit via supporting spirit skills, which gives too few options of using excess spirit. Also, too many spirit skills would better be limited by available Spirit, rather than having too few skill slots. (I've given a detailed description in a previous post, I won't repeat it here) Cheers. |

+1 but that's the reason that some rings provide more skill slots. Otherwise it will loose their value...

" Those extra slots allow for more 5-supported skills. I'm not asking to directly add more skill slots as they currently exist, but I want to be able to have more skills (unsupported for balancing reasons) even with the same 9-skill-slots limit, which could be possible with a specific meta gem. Being able to trade support gems for skills gems is why PoE 1 doesn't have this problem. Cheers. |
