[Linux] Random High CPU Latency
" I'm having some GPU related issues with my setup on Dx12, just out of curiosity, what version of mesa drivers do you have? Edit: For anyone that encounters this issue and Dx12 causes trouble, try closing the browser (weird relation, but my system freeze seems to be related to hardware acceleration on the browser). So far I've been playing with no issues with only PoE and PoB open (around 10 hours of testing). Last edited by YYKylar#4511 on Nov 20, 2025, 1:16:04 AM

Just stumbled upon this thread, tried everything from different proton versions, through different compositors, with gamescope and without, but on vulkan the sympthoms are the same as in the first post (in Delirium, Ritual, etc).
I'm on arch, Ryzen 7 9700X and a 7700XT and switching to DX12 solved the performance problems. However, now the game makes my gpu cooler spin on max after entering a map and stays on max until I return to hideout. Corectrl doesn't seem to work. What are you all using for fan control? |
|
" I'm not sure, using the default fan control of fedora, but it's true my GPU goes max usage and stays around 75C, that might be the reason but i would not look too much into that, unless is thermal throttling I would not look too much into it. |

BUMPING this thread because this issue is driving me nuts. HC SSF having to relog like 2 times per map just because I want to run ritual. blighted maps impossible.
GGG please look into this, something is definitely busted. It seems to me that it is always ignite/fire related and looks like it's some burning animation that is not culled/unloaded. If I move far away enough it goes away. |
|
" Did it go away for you using Dx12 renderer? That seemed to help as a workaround for a couple of us. But YES, GGG please check it out, I can provide logs or information needed, but please take a look at it. |

Hey,
for me the switch to DX12 also solves the CPU issue. But overall the performance is a little bit worse. I doubt that GGG will look into an issue which only appears on an unsupported OS. |
|
" Thank you, this fixed all of my problems as well on nobara linux! I can finally do Simulacrum without the game effectively freezing solid around wave 10. |

Edit: I changed my PoE Launch Options in steam, I put:
MESA_SHADER_CACHE_MAX_SIZE=10G %COMMAND% --waitforpreload My performance is much better after this change, I can now watch youtube in 1080p on my second monitor while clearing wave 15 of Simulacrum on my main monitor, and my framerate during that heavy combat is averaging between 40-55fps with the lowest dip that I've seen being 28fps. Before I added these launch options, it would dip to single digits and "slow down time". Note that the mesa launch option is for AMD GPUs, and I'm on nobara/fedora linux, using dx12 renderer. I will test with Vulkan as well and see if it still goes down to 0.5fps or if that is fixed as well. Edit 2: Vulkan is still no good, fps drops to nothing during intense combat. So weird, it was fine for the first 3 weeks of Keepers league and suddenly it's broken? I will stick with dx12. ______ Original post: " Updating this: The shader lag has come back after a couple days of playing on dx12, although it is not completely locking up and forcing me to exit to character select like it was when using Vulkan renderer. In Simulacrum, or even juiced maps on my Flicker Strike character, hitting large packs of enemies causes everything to hesitate and slow down. Once the majority of monsters are dead, the game "speeds up time" and about twenty seconds of gameplay happens at warp speed over a couple seconds as the game client "catches up". During the slowed-down time, the shader graph is completely maxxed out even though my CPU and GPU utilization is well below 100%. Ryzen 5 2600 32gb DDR4 2666 Radeon RX 7600 8gb 1tb m.2 nvme SSD nobara linux Steam client Proton experimental CPU temps never get over 50c (huge aftermarket 120mm heatpiped air cooler, no overlock) GPU temps never get over 60c RAM passes memtest PoE, Steam, and OS are installed on the same Samsung m.2 nvme SSD The issue is far worse if I have a browser open on my second monitor, or even have a browser minimized while playing a youtube video for music. I would assume it's just my PC specs not being up to the task . . . except these issues only started for me about 6 days ago! For the first three weeks of the league I did not have any performance issues, I was happily blasting T17s with huge pack size on my Flicker character while watching youtube on my second monitor and the game did not have these slowdowns or stutters. I don't understand what changed, I have been using the same kernel and drivers, and did not change any PoE settings until the shader issues started freezing my game solid on Vulkan. Changing game options like FSR, max FPS, dynamic resolution, lighting quality, bloom, audio channels, fullscreen/windowed fs/windowed, etc have had no effect. My graphics card can handle the rendering, but clearly there is a problem with loading shaders specifically. I just don't understand why the problems suddenly started three weeks into the league with no changes on my end. Now I will try: - Updating my BIOS - Various launch options mentioned in this thread - Deleting shader caches and allowing them to rebuild - Reinstalling PoE - Switching to DX11 even though it looks bad Please note that this is not server/ping related, and my ping stays nice and low during these episodes of shader lag. Even when it was freezing completely with Vulkan, chat messages were showing up normally lol. Last edited by Mradnor#2590 on Dec 2, 2025, 10:45:13 PM
