Assuming nothing changed before the patch and OP is being true to what he wrote with no hidden catch, why would inproving defenses make a difference here? I would expect comparable result before and after the patch

The numbers provided by OP are low -- regardless of pre/post 0.3.1 patch.
I don't think that matters. Again the assumption here is what the OP said is true about his experience prior to the patch. If he was surviving fine prior to the patch, and now doing worst after the patch, why does his current stat matters more now. What exactly changed?
If his numberx are low, we should see the same issues before the patch unless OP is telling a lie or the patch has hidden changes
So his numbers in 0.3.0 are fine where his surivival is good and right after 0.3.1, now it's worst? Why? I expect equally fine or equally worst before and after.
they changed the way evasion works, and they added a boss in every map. maybe there are other changes to how damage is calculated.
but more than that the OP is a higher level now than they were in 0.3. So their rate of deaths might have still allowed for advancement but at this point the 10% death penalty is insurmountable.

Personally last 300 hours havent run single map for any farming purposes. Mapping is dead for 0.3.1 time consuming and unenjoyable as it was before but atleast you couldve get somewhat currency guaranteed. Now i think running magic map or rare deli map honestly no difference. Sometimes i run 10 deli maps and get 0 currency. Then hop on random magic map that is prolly even t14 for no reason and get 2 divs worth of loot per map. Other than that i run maps only with friends as aura bot character. When i am alone just running extra content. As there is almost none i spend same time in my hideout as last season. It is what it is. Still love the game the way it is. Lv 100 is unachievable for me anyways. I know i can clear all pinnacle and maxed out maps with ease in lv 85-88. Anyways got carried away. What i wanted to say if something is not working out for you dont burn yourself out. Do content what you can do and enjoy and wait for next patch season etc.

I agree. I am basically just waiting for the next major patch before I hop back in. I still have my Merchant store up and running just un case folks wanna buy. Right now I am burning my time in Borderlands 4.
I think I have gotten far enough in PoE 2 0.3.x than the majority but not far enough to be in the top 1%. I would like to but maybe next patch.
