Trial of Sekhemas and Trial of Chaos are anti-fun and should be overhauled or scrapped entirely.
" I'm not doing trials 3 and 4, and I'm probably going to focus on getting wacky builds through the campaign, instead of spending much time in maps. The campaign is what shines in 0.3. Ascendancies and endgame are hopefully coming in 0.4. Point being: don't get stressed about content that isn't ready yet. Not worth it. SSF Rise of the Abyssal Ice Strike Invoker, high survivability and fast clear speed. Deprioritize armor and resistances; prioritize crafting a weapon and faster start of ES recharge. Build is shown at level 47, end of Act 3. It tore through Act 3 like butter.

I like both, to be honest, in idea. Especially Sekhemas, I like planning rooms and avoiding the most foul rooms, gathering and uying boons to make myself prepared for next floor. Rewards also kinda good, a bit random, but it's the best way to run for jewels for your character. The boss rewards are laughable mostly, except few very rare items.
Trials of Chaos are fine, except debuffs are crazy strong Bahlak bird boss, that is simply too powerful for that small arena covered in all kind of debuffs. ToC really feels like overtuned, especially given how bad rewards we get from it (cores are the only usable thing, and most of them are useless for most builds, so to drop the wanted one - we have to grind and grind). I would like to see better rewards or make debuffs on ToC less punishing (and removal "no defence type" debuffs and replacing with 50% defenses is better, because no shield\evasion\armor on full es\evasion\armor character effectively kills the 30-40 minutes long run). |

Not to mention the game's catastrophic performance, which adds even more friction to these trials, which are painful and boring as hell. Yes I confess, it is not a skill issue but a boring issue. In my main language an idiomatic expression describes this as "dying by bored" The Abyss latest release is a real uplift in theme of quality of life (crafting, private sell shop, the content <3), I really enjoy it. And ? Well the worse part of the game in term of game experience remains the trials of Sekemas and those of Chaos (Ground effects, spam mobs, "lasering" from out of screen, buffed bosses), four long stage level for each one, boring and painfully long boring. As I said earlier, I like trials in general. But I support thesis about Ascendancies blocked behind challenging content. And ascendancies is not "nice to have" improvements, they are backbone of all builds. There should be a better way to get all 4 instead of paying 1 div for pros running trials and opening last points for people who have no time and possibilities to do trials themselves.
I did my 0.3 full ascendancy today. It was exciting, but I know Sekhemas well and managed to collect all the boons possible and 75% honor resist relics to make it interesting and more or less balanced. I was lucky to get adequate floors layout and don't catch the death spiral of random afflictions applying even more random afflictions. It would be nice to have better alternative for ascendancies 9like, new trials or arenas, we already have new trial-like area in Act 4, why not put 2 more points there?). I failed a couple trials when PoE2 launched. Never again, over multiple characters doing any crazy build I come up with while leveling. They are not hard, not anti-fun. They are a little bit of challenge and they are fun. If you're failing them, you are losing a fight and a game must have conditions for you to lose. Get good, sorry. Your build must be bad or simply you are playing bad. Or it's just you want to have all the power for free and just watch the character get stronger without having to overcome any kind of challenge.
On sekhemas, pay attention to what you pick and you will learn after a handful of runs how to guarantee you always get through easy even without any fancy relics. On chaos, there are several way overtuned mods but there are always some option that can be bad but manageable. That said, I only do chaos for 2nd ascendancy because for the 4th having to go 3 times is annoying. |

" Get good? Good at luck? because these trials are pure luck. If you get the wrong debuff for your toon then too bad so sad. A perfect example of this. My current reap Witch has 0 defences, it relies on Damage to Mana conversion and Recoup to survive and works very well. So reduced defenses in ToC not a problem. My Merc relies heavily on both evasion and armor to survive and does not have so much HP so reduce defenses on that toon = not good. Build realy does not matter so much as whether or not you are lucky to get debuffs/afflictions that effect you. I carried my brother through ToC to get his 6 points last night, first run got terrible choices and died. Second run, took half the time and smashed it no problem as the options were a non-issue for me. They are complete RNG. |

Sekhemas is not pure luck
Chaos is though I personally love sekhemas for farming jewels and a bunch of other stuff to break up the map grind that gets pretty stale at end game. Mash the clean

" They are both based on luck, Sekhemas just has a bigger buffer. You can still luck out on having multiple bad choices. You don't always get the option to remove afflictions and majority of the time you can't even choose which one to remove. This is all luck based, sure you can choose the room to go in but its no different to ToC in this case, you can choose the less bad of the bad. |
