I can kill them with my melee character if we're fighting one-on-one. I roll away, hit a flask, then attack again. It takes a couple minutes, so it's consistent with meaningful combat and I don't mind. (Also, it's why I use a life flask with charges per second; it drains the flask more than fighting a boss.)

What makes me nope out of Abyssal Depths is when a shroud walker is surrounded by other annoying things, the most "fun" being river hags.

I think if they treated shroud walkers like dangerous boss encounters, it would make for better gameplay.
SSF Rise of the Abyssal Ice Strike Invoker, high survivability and fast clear speed. Deprioritize armor and resistances; prioritize crafting a weapon and faster start of ES recharge. Build is shown at level 47, end of Act 3. It tore through Act 3 like butter.

I think you died especially quickly cuz you have the build that hurts itself, when your red mana goes overboard. Normally you would quickly recover that lost ES back, but since this ground disables any health/ES recovery you end up helping the monster to kill you.

Cool build, by the way, nice to see Demonform working.

Not much you can do here.
I would probably just always assume that this monster IS there, when fighting abyssals.
Do some scouting around without casting much, while having a dodge roll ready.
Try to lure this bastard out. And after you are sure he isn't there, then go brrrr.
