Ruthless became a joke.

heh yeah i've seen that interview. I have a feeling Chris has somewhat unhealthy relationship with Classic D2. Wish him the best but I did not board that particular hypetrain.

I predict a small but very devoted fandom for whatever he comes up with. ='[.]'=

Probably. I mean, I'll take a look, but if I get a whiff of BS 2000 era time wasting mechanics I'm gone. I didn't care for them then, don't care for them now. I put up with them because I had no choice.
Why play Ruthless in PoE 1 when PoE 2 exists?
Want to play True Ruthless in POE1?

Just play the game naked. Voila!

I mean in-game, you pervert! ...although it may or may not increase the difficulty if you play the game while naked in real life, too.

I just want to point out that games "from the creator of X" doesn't necessarily mean their new passion project will be good.

These successful games are usually a result of a lot of luck, dedication and the right time. I am sure that behind path of exile theres a lot of very talented devs which were also part of the history but not acknowledged, which probably won't be the case on a new, small project. The game also started more than a decade ago when the market and player expectations were much different. Early poe would not get anywhere in 2025, and it will be the same for whathever they cook next unless its really good gameplay AND polish from the get go.

I mean look at brighter shores, from "the creator of runescape". Its absolute garbage.

To add to that Hellgate London from original Blizzard North failed pretty badly. Torchlight 2 also didn't take off. TL2 wasn't bad but just didn't flourish because times changed.

that's jut not true, Torchlight 2 did great, but it had an end. It was easy to blow through the entire game on the hardest difficulty in a weekend and mods could entertain you for a little while but once you were done, you were done. No reason to go back. That doesn't mean it wasn't successful for its day
Ruthless is basically just a slowed down version of the original game, that's the only challenge, it's cool that items and currency matter more, but in the end it's pretty much the same experience, just slower. And I would agree with some people here, ruthless is kind of forgotten at this point, I see very little changes to it, I think it was used as a gateway to Poe 2

No offense, but they should just delete the Ruthless project and redirect the human and other resources towards better servers and buffs of the main game.

That would at least give some signs of their supposed "changed" approach

Agreed. Ruthless' entire difficulty is based on tedium, so boring to play and I say this as a HCSSF player.
HC balance should be separate from SC I don't care which outdated 1993 game dev philosophy this goes against. youtube/twitch.tv/DESPAIR268

REVERT SUNDER :) REVERT SEISMIC CRY :) REVERT IMPALER :) REVERT GAME :)) MAKE DUALWIELD GREAT AGAIN :)
Wasn't Ruthless Chris' baby, which they worked on in their spare time? I mean, with Chris gone...
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

Not only that, but Hrishi was afaik the single developer who changed and balanced Ruthless with each new league. Well he's gone aswell, so I don't think there's anyone left working on that side project. (with good reason)
