Ruthless became a joke.

-respec passives mid boss fights
-no gear needed for campaign
-merc have no gear making them easier than regular league

Is this mode even maintained in terms of balance? After ledge act-1 there was no mob/boss that was lethal. Brutus=tanked, Vaal slam= tanked, Fist of God=tanked, Kole=tanked, Piety 1 and 2=tanked. Some fights I had to move around but at no point I was afraid i will die, its just long period of holding a button and managing flasks. Now I understand people in PoE2 trade league on how content can feel tedious. The difference is that with 'ruthless' amount of gear in PoE2 in ssf all major bosses are lethal, this makes the game fun. Ruthless became a parody of itself because its build upon the base of a broken game.

my gear at lvl39, just face rolled Kaom.

God give me patience to get to maps.

No offense, but they should just delete the Ruthless project and redirect the human and other resources towards better servers and buffs of the main game.

That would at least give some signs of their supposed "changed" approach
i feel like mistakes were made, ruthless was done in their spare time and thrown together, it was experimental but the reaction from the pitchfork town criers was so extreme it became a completely toxic subject so they could never make the changes and experiment with the mode. any time they mentioned something to do with ruthless they were verbally assaulted for spending time on it, any time a nerf happened in poe1 it was now proof that ruthless was invading the game, it just become impossible to do something cool with ruthless and make it work.

thats probably why chris left, hes couldnt even just mess around with ruthless and have our feedback, share it with us as this cool little project. instead it was used as a weapon of hate to attack him and call for him to resign every day.

i think the idea is cool, i dont rly think the implementation has ever been right and now that we have poe2 thats become a way to reimagine poe without the gratuitous power creep and its doing it way better than ruthless ever will. i kind of agree with panikouk, if i was in charge id probably just take it out back and shoot it, bury it in the car park.

maybe when poe2 is fully released and theres some breathing room make a new version of starvation mode poe1, rebranded and allowed to breath.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
Bro if you want to play ruthless there is poe2 for you. No more time spent on this trash mode ty.
I really don't see a point in Ruthless anymore.

The people who developed and cared for that mode are no longer at the company and imo it was only a testing ground for PoE2 anyways, which now is in a playable state.

Hopefully they just shut it down at some point, instead of letting it wither away with each new patch.
Just wait a few more years for Chris Wilssons new "old school" RPG.

heh yeah i've seen that interview. I have a feeling Chris has somewhat unhealthy relationship with Classic D2. Wish him the best but I did not board that particular hypetrain.
If Chris and friends make a new "D2 inspired" ARPG, can they put in a mass item ID feature this time? You know, the feature that D2 has had since its inception in 2001? Perhaps they can also make dropped wearable item not automatically worthless?

The pitchforks came out because of the terrible optics of GGG releasing a patch with tons of Ruthless changes and very little base game changes, coupled with the fact that base game ascendency reworks were put on hold because of Ruthless. It didn't look good, at all, especially because no one asked for ruthless and it was promised that Ruthless wouldn't interfere with the base game, but then did.
