" Every so often, a major end-game expansion drops. In recent years, these have been called 'BLANK of/for the Atlas'. Secrets of the Atlas is one such expansion. When these end-game expansions drop, they don't share the name of the accompanying Challenge League. The reason Secrets was revealed ahead of Mercenaries is because Secrets is far more important to the future of the game. It will define the game henceforth into the future, whereas Mercenaries is (most likely) a temporary mechanic with little impact on the game's future. It's just how GGG deliver major end-game expansions. |

" In case its still unclear: what you know as the "league" is actually called the "challenge league". It is SMALLER than you think it is. This is: Settlers Affliction Kalandra etc. Challenge League exists in direct opposition to Standard. The difference being that, in a week, there will be Trarthus Challenge League OR Standard. The EXPANSION, as it currently is, is Maven, Eater, and Exarch. EXPANSION exists everywhere, all the time, regardless of game mode. It is a rewrite of the endgame of Path of Exile. Just like how the game went from 3 acts, to 4, to 10, Shaper, Elder, Sirus, Maven. Now we have NEW pinnacle bosses, aka, the "end" of the updated storyline of PoE. In one week the CHALLENGE LEAGUE (equivalent of Settlers) will be Trarthus The EXPANSION, aka the entire endgame EVERYWHERE, is Secrets of the Atlas. TLDR: YES they exist simultaneouly, but ONLY if you are playing in the challenge league (as likely you always do), and NOT standard. " If this happens to be their first expansion experience....how else would they know? These things don't happen very frequently. And it could be even longer since the last "expansion announcement" if they happened to have missed that particular league launch, and only played leagues before or after it. Maybe try not being "obtuse" yourselves... Starting anew....with PoE 2
