How to solve RMT and mirroring monopoly
1. Auction House
In-game, stash-integrated, bulk trading (currency exchange updated for this) No more third-party sites or whisper spam Cuts down on RMT by keeping trade in-game 2. Automated Mirror Service (part of the auction house) This can work similar to crafting orders in WoW (for reference) Crafters can list their mirror-tier items with their desired mirror fee Players insert their mirror and fee, get the mirrored copy instantly (like the currency exchange) — crafter doesn’t need to be online for this to work, they can list their items and make passive income. Safe, scam-free, fair access to top-tier gear for all. Gives more crafters a shot at earning and access to all players, not just the mirror cartel. Clean, efficient, and it fixes two major pain points without killing PoE’s economy vibe. Thoughts? Last edited by PoeAccount#2973 on Jun 3, 2025, 7:29:22 AM Last bumped on Jun 4, 2025, 4:42:16 PM

They need to kill the monopoly that The Forbidden Trove has. That's where 99% of all RMT happens. A few years ago I know there were employees at GGG that held stocks in RMT websites, so that should also tell you quite a bit.
My most hated game.
My most favorite game. Such is the duality of man. |

These are terrible Blizzard-like ideas. Honestly, it doesn’t get worse:
1. What exactly bothers you about the “mirror monopoly”? Are you offended? Jealous that someone got somewhere through effort or luck? Want to seize and redistribute everything “fairly” among people like you? Why even fight this? 2. An automated auction house would be bot paradise. Popular items will be instantly auto-sniped by scripts. Prices will skyrocket, and actual players won’t be able to buy anything. 3. What’s your problem with RMT? Like it or not, most of what you enjoy in the game exists because of RMT. In fact, it helps keep the economy — and the game itself — alive. 4. How many times have you actually been scammed by a mirror service? |

This has potential to be a popcorn thread. I won't start popping any yet, but I have it at the ready.
I poop, therefore I am.

Not caring about it also solves a lot of the problems.

Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” |

" Offering perspective on these: 1) Effort / Luck / Jealousy has VERY LITTLE to do with the "mirror monopoly" that exists. It is almost entirely funded by RMT and what some consider to be "unfair mechanics" (endless mirroring being the primary culprit). Yes, it doesn't REALLY have any negative effect on those who don't compete with it from a crafting perspective. 2) Yep, screw the auction house idea. 3) Lol this is just....wrong. RMT does not keep the economy alive. REAL PLAYERS playing the REAL GAME keep the economy alive. RMT actually concentrates wealth, and damages the economy. Think about where the items come from that are bought with RMT.....the market and economy that we ALL take part in. When players come in and outright buy massive quantities of things, it increases the cost for everyone else and adds nothing to the market in its place. It only serves to decrease the supply (some would say "unfairly"). The only way YOUR assertion would be remotely correct is if the supplies bought through RMT come from OUTSIDE the game, which they do not. And even then, too much infusion of outside currency means devaluing, which means inflation. Unless of course, the point you are trying to make is that it helps the game because it offers a financial incentive to the top crafters to continue making mirror tier gear.....but that's a HUGE problem. That's like saying we should reward billionaires with more money because they donate money to charity. 4) Agreed. It is exceedingly rare to be scammed by a mirror service, because the same 10 people (or less) run the entire mirror monopoly. It would be detrimental to them to scam people lol. Nor do they NEED to scam people: they are raking in tons and tons of currency and continue to hold the best items possible in the game. What are they going to steal? " Wasn't that an investor that wasn't involved in the development at all? I may be wrong here, but spreading stuff like this without context is just bad. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

" It’s possible we’re talking about different things when we say “RMT”. You seem to be referring to the people who just buy and resell. I’m talking about the grinders — the ones playing 16 hours a day farming and selling. They’re the ones flooding the market with items, keeping prices accessible, and indirectly enabling a wide range of builds and services. Without them, the market dries up, and the game economy stagnates. |

" It is a very wrong assertion that "the market dries up" without RMT farm suppliers. The game market adjusts to everything, supply and demand. And what people are willing to pay based on the time it takes to acquire currency. It is incredibly unlikely there would be a legitimate "shortage" of currency given how many real players there are and how much currency drops. And even if there was a shortage of, say, mirrors...the market adjusts to that and would likely lower the cost of everything. All information taken together, RMT has very LITTLE positive impact, if any, on the economy and the potential for MAJOR negative impact. Again...we can go back to the inflation thing: high end items would likely cost FAR LESS if there were less currency in the market overall. Mirror fees would be less because people would NOT be paying them enough for crafters to bankroll other items or remain profitable. The only thing RMT "farmers" accomplish is driving down the value of currency by flooding the market with it, and increasing the cost of all things at the higher end. You fail to see the repercussions and are only assessing the idea that "more is better". It's not. That isn't how economics work, and it isn't how trade works. This is only a tiny fraction of the full equation that makes a healthy "economy". Otherwise, in real life, it would make sense for governments to constantly be printing more and more currency without bound because "more is better". That is how monetary systems are destroyed.
