How much life does your character have? A ka EHP in total? EHP = Life + es combined. And which level area you were on? Was it a waystone/map and if so, which mods did it have?

this is know feature from GGG. Of course is intentionally done.
For me it was visible after a few days of playing first time PoE2 from the beginning.
I hate this, it is frustrated and the guy who invented it should be fired.

Invented what? Your bad knowledge of how to build up defenses? You ignoring your own resistances? You not paying attention to the mods in the maps?

Tablets =/= waystones. Tablets cannot have bad modifiers?

I saw many people with far to less life on their characters wondering why they die to much. If you have 2 life it doesn't matter if you are 6-7 levels higher as the enemy.

Normally and for you to get some data on how much life people should have, you can be pretty tanky with 2k life at start of maps, up to T10 maps, then you should be at around 3k or more except you have good defenses and a skill to counterweight it.

No flaming involved, just advice how to avoid such situations.
White enemies can still get buffs from enemies around them and running zero damage mods on your maps sounds like you lack life on your character or other mandatory defenses.

OMG! why post "on probation" "removed by support". He was typying truth, whole game like this. I am on Hardcore, 732 hours, and I feel all of bad work of balance, spending 60 hours to make a champ and died by MYSTERY as the others! Don't remove posts like this. It's pure TRUE! I don't write about unbalance, the most annoying part server and technical issues that you haven't fix yet! First 80 hours was only CRASH CRASH CRASH; Crash of .exe, crash in mid session, disconnect from server. And it's all there! Fix this! then balance! Then remove bad POSTS! SUPPORT!!!

Tbh I think grey mob damage figures are bugged sometimes. Attacks from elites are bosses are like being tickled by a feather in comparison to some grey mobs.

Kinda hope they look into this and fix it/tone down grey mobs doing insane one shot damage.

Some say player power too much. Some say player power not enough. Some play HC SSF, some play path of vacation... Go figure... LOL

lost a bunch of experience just now to a multiple series of one shotters. Quickly left the game. May try again tomorrow =(

Nice question. Do you know what would make it easier to reply? A 'death report', something we're asking for since forever.
