The leagues we have I. The game goes against what the game should be

Assuming we want a slower paced and more meaningful combat game
I find it very weird the league choices, breach =you need to go fast, delirium = you need to go fast, ritual = you need to kill stuff fast, the only one that kinda gets a pass is expedition but you skill benefit greatly from killing everything fast else you will be swarmed. Even the new wisps you have to kinda go fast else he disappears. So they say they want more meaningful combat but the game is saying move fast and kill fast. I hope they add more mechanisms that play to the strengths of the game, slower mechanics with big loot to go along, rogue exiles are kind of the right direction, but they are more like a tanky rare than a really unique enemy, and the loot is not that great. A good league for poe2 should be slower and more rewarding rather than zoomy and middling rewards. Last bumped on Apr 17, 2025, 6:32:21 PM

Even better the devs should realize that the majority of players dont want slow boring gameplay and thats why they all end up stopping playing their slow shitty builds and switching to Amazon or Deadeye. Start designing content around what people want to do instead of this vision, which is basically just them trying to show off all the mechanics they worked hard on that no one actually wants to engage with

That's pretty much my main issue. While i love the game atm (not saying it's perfect mind you. There's plenty to fix.), it definitely has an identity crisis. All over the interviews you keep hearing the methodical, meaningful, comboing combat but pretty much all the leagues are "blow hundreds of mobs away as quick as you can or you're dead". And with 2 out of the 4 (breaches and delirium) you can't even take your time with it due to the timed mechanic.

Meaningful combat currently means that you dodge roll around enemies and especially bosses for tens of minutes in hopes of tickling them to death because you can't find meaningful upgrades to your gear - and no don't remind me of the awful concept of trading in this game; especially when you don't have the currency to buy anything because the currency drops are a joke!
I'd rather have meaningful drops or actual crafting in the game. That would solve a lot of frustrations I currently have. At this stage and as expressed in a different thread, I too cannot seem to find a direction the game is heading... |

" Yes it is straight ego. They want to be patted on the back for their hard work in designing these mechanics, which admittedly are quite in depth and impressive. It's like brilliant theoretical work with zero foresight with regards to practicality and playability.. Like the players are a bunch of rats in a maze or something. |

I agree, but i fear that bringing these leagues to poe 2 already made an irreversible damage to the game, bcs i really don't believe they would ever take them away or massively rework them from the ground up to fit poe 2 style better
Like you just said look at the asmerian wisps mechanic, is yet another mechanic that enforces you to be fast, so these type of contents are here to stay even if they don't synergize with the slow skills/attack we as players currently have, so i think that in the future they'll be making skills a lot faster to accommodate these leagues, and it might end up in them turning poe 2 into poe 1.5 but oh well, it's the price ggg paid with insisting in releasing EA in 2024 with only 3 acts and an endgame that was made in only 6 months iirc Last edited by Vyend#2601 on Apr 17, 2025, 10:11:29 AM

I think the idea of "POE 1.5" needs to die. POE2 becoming POE1.5 is actually just it becoming a Path of Exile game instead of whatever it is trying and failing to be right now. The devs rightfully had a bunch of issues with POE1 and knew they could not fix them within that game. Keep the new skill gem, keep the new crafting system, keep basically everything but for the love of God fix the pacing with this game and fix the loot. It's burning everyone out.

" Slow doesn't mean unfun. Tedious doesn't mean difficult. I'm tired to say that. The game could be slow and fun...if just they were designed all league mechanics from scratch instead of copy pasting from POE1. as OP said all endgame mechanics too fast to be meaningfull. Game forces you to zoom around and blast everything. They must understand (i was realy laughing when Jonathan debated with Ziz about that) the game can't be balanced when you slowdown players not an enemys It can't be meaningfull when 100 mobs running at you with 100% movement speed and attack speed and chainstunning you. You can't slowdown players movement speed and give such a large scaling locations. Who the hell run from mobs when the main thing in the game is wipe out whole screen of hordes. Dude, it's not a dark souls when you want to skip encounters. Even that what's wrong with such a gameplay when you rushing to rares because killing white mobs is pointless? Thats a fair point. I think it would also be fair to say however that most players' behavior suggests that they want to play quickly. All you have to do is look at the % of people choosing each class and ascendancy and it's pretty clear that slow methodical gameplay is not highly desired. The game that they ported all of this content from was successful, while this one is failing. Seems the path forward is quite obvious

" Poe 1.5 is what we are getting now. Even Engine for POE2 litteraly is POE1. I'm not jocking. They took POE1 and just added new animations and effects. GGG can create zoom zoom gameplay but they wants to make an dark souls over zoom zoom gameplay. That delusion must be gone.
