EU Commission announcement dated March 20th
" I guess I'm confused on your point. WE don't like rmt, but how in any universe is that something a government would be concerned with? You can't rmt for mtx bought in the game. (I mean, why would you.) And good luck policing rmt for not just item trades, but also services and boss carries. GGG's defense; there hasn't been a single game that's been able to police rmt completely, and rmt isn't actually a problem outside of us players not liking it because it hurts the spirit of the game. Again, what's the actual horrible problem that a government needs to step in to stop here? Explain what you're talking about with an example if you could please. " I'd highly recommend reading up on what the CPC network does, how their process works and why not a single thing you mentioned would be remotely relevant to them. |

I recon all they have to do is adding dollar/localized values to all the mtx in the store. The stuff is mainly aimed at games with multiple premium currencies that adds to confuse the customers of the real price. Doubt GGG needs to do a lot of changes to get in line with the new stuff.

PoE's Point system should be the least of the EU's worries. It's transparent, as you always obtain 10 Points per $1 you spend regardless of how many Points you buy.
You don't even need to go past the ARPG genre to find much more egregious examples. Take Diablo Immoral's Eternal Orb system which is designed to obfuscate the actual dollar amounts you are spending. For example, $1 gets you 60 Eternal Orbs. But $5 gets you 315. $10 gets you 630 Orbs. All the way to the $100 pack with 7200 Orbs. That's much much worse than the flat $1 = 10 Point rate used in PoE. |

Some here are missing the actual point: the simple fact that the store uses "points" as currency is hiding the real life currency value from the end-user. It doesn't matter how easy or simple the conversion is - the fact that conversion needs to be done at all is a predatory practice.

" There is a point to that, as in fractured prices without points, or weird numbers. It also enables point gifts from the company etc. But yes, in its core it is. But that won't really matter in this case. Many retail companies in central EU countries use these types of point systems for their trust programs, and almost all law suits against those practices failed. I don't believe it would be different here. Also the scope of POE is just too small for the EU anyway, there are way bigger fish to fry Current Build: Penance Brand

Apparently Kid F2P online games are under scrutiny for marketing in-game virtual currencies to children or their parents to buy it for them. If they don't, how do they make money? We just have to ban kids from playing, right? No kids allowed! |
