Spark without Archmage and a huge Mana pool is just bad. I’m surprised you played until level 52.
Anyway, the game is not about "luck." As others have mentioned, you can either craft or trade to improve your gear or experiment with different skill combinations. When I leveled my Witch two months ago, I used Frost Wall and Fireball from level 32 onward. From that point on each campaigne boss was a joke. Very safe with huge AoE explosions that just melt everything. You won’t get any better at the game if you don’t try new things and avoid getting stuck on a single idea of how to kill stuff. Seeing somewhere a guide "Spark op!!!!!" doesn`t mean it`s a good idea to just go spark no matter what, without any clue what exactly makes the build good. Your idea of the problem is now "I am unlucky so my build doesn`t work" while the simple truth is that you don`t have a build to begin with and that you did`t look into the possibilities the game gives us. It`s about exploring what you can do to get better. Not to reach Level X as fast as you can and "finish" the game or whatever. |

At this point particular so late in the economy, crafting is probably the worst idea you can have.
The game goes something like, if you find something decent you hope for regal/exalted slam at start, because crafting is non-existent and it's just a gambling feature. Vendors/Gambling gold at vendors is a good way to get some gear but it's also gated around luck... So late in the economy, the exalts you drop from mobs are better spent to buy cheap good 1 ex items that can carry you... Also it should be noted that you can pretty much level up to maps with a 1-2ex item like Pillar of the caged god, stack every strg node and good notables on the way, and just respec at the end. The tree is not that massive and you can pretty much respec with like 50k gold to a decent place to start your build. Lazy exile has build guides for every class with some cheap uniques here : https://mobalytics.gg/poe-2/profile/e9dd5679-c1ba-4252-bc00-cce31336b937/builds/be754564-4401-4078-a439-3e0f66b72c02 . You really do not need to use the same uniques the whole strength of this leveling twinks sit in pillar of the caged god and your tree. You can just buy a pillar, respec your tree to some strength nodes following her trees for your class, blast to maps and respec to your build once you hit maps. At that point you should have some of the gear for your build or at least some decent chunk of exalts that you can use to buy some cheap 5-10 ex items to start your build. Now I know that it might not be your cookie cutter answer because you might want to use the build you want from the start, but that's not how PoE works, in PoE you build into building if it makes sense. You start with a skill/items that carry you through the rough part which is the first few acts, and slowly pivoting to your end game build. Never start with a build that needs either a good chunk of points in the tree to perform, or specific requirements like large mana pool for archmage to shine, or specific uniques that cost a lot of divines, or a higher level for some interactions to work. This is why most of us separate builds into leveling / league starters / high end builds...Because we all start with a leveling build that works overall well, we transition into a league starter that can farm lower end maps comfortably to start doing the mechanics of the game, and after either transition or start from scratch the end game build we want to play. Spark / Archmage while it's a good build, it shines after you invest a lot in mana/mana regen/mana and most of all some ascendancies that make it good after you stacked stuff. At start it doesn't hit very hard meaning you need to use flame wall + curses + a lot of stuff to make it feel decent and since your defensives are almost in-existent because you rely on MoM and either hibrid or ES for end game and a solid mana pool, it will feel like a bad choice. My suggestion would be to just start a detonate dead bloodmage for a start, get a pillar and blast to level 52, transition to detonate dead, because it only requires some 3 links and the tree to function well, start getting some currency as it can farm comfortably ultimatums with little to no investment (technically I beat the whole content with it but just sayin what you can do), and then save some currency to start an arc build...Why make your life hard to waste your time for 2-3 weeks to just start as spark/archmage, when you can blast the game in 3-4 days and then transition smoothly in another 2 or 3. My advices above are for people playing trade league, for SSF I am assuming you already know how the game plays and if you didn't want to use trade from the start, you know how to build around and play around the game. " You are not alone. My Luck sucks as well. 90% of the gear I have I have had to buy, and even with that I am now after 650 hours at the point where I have enough funds to buy Div level gear. Just remember that 90% of the posters here (especially the "Get Gud" crowd) are here to make everyone else feel that they are shit plaers, especially the POE newbies. I hope so, after 400 hours. |

Solo Self Found Hardcore.
Start with really thinking about your build. The skills you are using, the gems you are putting in them, and the passives you are using. Then think about what mix of armor/es/evasion/shield or no shield best fits what you are doing/wanting to do. Check vendors for items, pick up white items to craft, sell blues to pay for gambling which you should be doing, break down items, Check the rolls on magicals to see if you should turn into rares or not. I specifically like to buy "quality" items from vendors since you can break them down and then use them to upgrade your gear as you go. I actually just found a +2 minions helmet with + ES magic on a vendor, upgraded to rare and off I went. The sooner someone starts doing all of this, the easier gearing will be. Speed running through and not doing/knowing all of that stuff really puts you behind the power curve. I have had 5 characters die so far, 3 of them were to Titan before they patched it, my highest character died at 66 to Viper in Act 6 yesterday. The game is much easier if you use all of the systems regularly and really think it through. Full clears also helps a lot. Increased Rarity also seems to be nice. start a new sheet. I run the first area (post tutorial) a few times especially the "boss" fight. The same every few new areas. RNG my guy. If there's a loot rich farm, might as well do it a few times before moving on.

The beginning of the game can be daunting and you may have to repeat areas more than once. The curve is a little off on this one. Normal is actually harder than the end of the game.
