The Idols

The option to use the atlas normally is to not play the event that's the choice the whole purpose of the event is to experiment

I disagreethe event isn’t just about the idols; the alternative Ascendancies also open up numerous build possibilities, especially if you’re not someone who sticks to a single build per league.

I agree with the issues surrounding the Atlas tree and how complicated further expansion would become if more league mechanics were integrated into the core game. However, the Atlas system is still far more refined than idols. While I can imagine a scenario where idols could functionally surpass the Atlas, we're nowhere near that point, and I highly doubt GGG will dedicate the necessary resources to make it happen anytime soon.

Many players are frustrated that the freedom to build power and control over favored mechanics, which once developed naturally as you progressed through the atlas, is now locked behind rng Idols drops or tedious trades.

It's statistically evident that with the right idol setup, you can generate significantly more rewards than the Atlas ever could.

Howerver from a game design and psychological perspective, taking away power from players, even if you compensate by granting them even greater power elsewhere, will still feel bad ... . Players tend to focus more on what was taken rather than what was given, especially if the new source of power is tedious or time-consuming to acquire. The loss is immediate and noticeable, while the gain often feels like an uphill grind although some adapt faster than others.
