Idea to combat bots and RMT
What if currency drops had a trade timer, where it's considered 'Fresh' and decides whether its tradeable or not?
As in, say you get your drop and now you have 24-72 hours to trade it before its no longer tradeable. Maybe the timer is visible to buyers, but in so doing there won't be currency 'hordes' used exclusively for selling and accumulating wealth that feeds into RMT, while hordes would be designated for crafting and what you intend to keep. As an added benefit, trades would be more frequent as people look to get rid of their supply before it expires. There would have to be some failsafe to help people needing to make change for a trade and some ironing out to make something functional But given the concept, the result would be to make currency have maybe a 3 day limit from the point its dropped that it could be shuffled around. I'm curious how the economy would react to something like that. A substitute would be adding a trade limit to different currency types, where each divine, chaos etc could only be traded X amount of times before being locked. So basically the more you play, the more you earn and the more stuff you can buy that doesn’t have a timer to then sell to the limited play time people who barely struggle to make enough money over a 3 day period to have acres to a 20p public toilet yet the RMT bots who play 24/7 convert the expirable into tangible and then screw everyone over 10x as hard because anyone that can’t play much isn’t going to be able to convert what they can earn into anything they need to craft something good.
Wonderful :) |

" Is that what would happen? I feel like the people who have less time to play would win here no? since RMT currency hoards can't just stockpile 50,000 divines and fix the market, while someone who just found a fresh divine would have much more buying power. |

" What if you want to buy 100 div item, are you implying everyone must farm 100 div in 24-72 hours?:) This is actually possible for elite, so 100 div prices won't go anywhere in your version. Besides, what if you don't see what you need in the market right now, should you rush to buy every shit available before ending the day? Mainstream solution here is to make all BiS items account bound by default. In poe case it would be T0 uniques, pinnacle content fragments, 21/23 gems. D4 has mythic uniques account bound, and other deep endgame rewards too. As soon as you modify item by crafting in D4, it will account bound to you too. What happens to prices on PoETrade when the supply of tradable items is decimated? Maybe you can afford a 500 divine upgrade, but not everyone else can.

" Okay that makes sense, but I feel like 100 div items would be reduced in price to something people would actually buy since only RMT could buy them, so that's another issue solved. The goal of the RMT sellers is to make currency and money, but if the only people buying from them are Elite then their market goes down and it becomes less profitable for them, and we get spammed less |

" Most of us can't afford a 500 divine upgrade, more people would have to craft their own items. I feel as though there will always be a supply of tradeable items though, just maybe not at the tier you're thinking of outside of crafting which is what I do anyway. |

Anyway, timestamping every unit of currency is impossible because stack of 100ex is not 100 item objects of ex, it is 1 item with its "stack amount" field set to 100. And when you combine/split stacks an item is deleted/created as required with new stack amount.
And even if someone does a ton of work and rewrites it, all paid currency tabs will go out of the window, have you thought about how to store and display all those timestamps in convenient format? If your timestamp will have precision down to minutes, it means even 2 ex obtained from same map cannot be stacked anymore, unless they spawned simultaneously. And then will come chaos, aug, vaal, breach splinters... :) |

There are other possibilities like having them degrade into 3 stages before becoming soulbound. Instead of 72 hour timestamps it could just be 3 different states, and thus 3 different stacks for specific high end currencies like Chaos or Divine. It's not a perfect system, but it's an idea. What we're doing certainly isn't working.

Or you could understand what drives RMT and bots, and you know, address that.
I'm done buying anything until we get some clarity on the future of POE1 and POE2 and I know GGG plans to spend effort on a game I want to play.
Tell us if POE1 still has your top tier support or if POE2 will get a mode for more casual play. |
