Has Chris Wilson left GGG?

Well the cat's been long out of the bag on this. Time to give CW a proper sendoff.

I really hoped they would at least say something on the recent Q&A session. Unfortunately it wasn't really a Q&A and more an extended advertisement. But its funny that they stated in a press interview, that they lack an experienced game designer/director for PoE1 right now, that's why they have a hard time developing both at the same time.

I mean.... Does anyone really believe Chris would just vanish without a word if this was on good terms? After 10 years of blood, sweat and tears? Being the face of GGG creating the best ARPG ever with his own (and others) hands? Loved by the community?

Call me crazy but this is more than odd. Even the argument that it's a PR thing to prevent whatever in regards to PoE2's EA launch and whatnot, I don't buy it.

It's been a while since I've seen him on camera but he has talked about the future of PoE, the making of PoE2, plans, "the vision"....just to vanish? So many things where I'm like...NO WAY would he just step down without anyone saying anything....?????

Sure there could be plenty "reasons", but come on.... Pretty sure almost everyone here would agree that the Chris we know would've said something. A farewell post, a quick video....but NOTHING? Also: If what someone else said is true and he left a year ago, that would be shortly after Bex, no? Can't remember the dates exactly, but.. Gone? Just like that?

That can't be right. I'm just saying random shit right now but realizing he's actually gone has me thinking something weird happened. This smells like some tencent corpa bullshit.

Man that's just sad...

Edit: Saw something quite interesting on a reddit thread dedicated to Chris leaving GGG....There's a link to a screenshot with conversation from someone claiming to work for GGG...Statements made date back to late 2024 (before EA launch). Not gonna link the screenshot because it's 4chan, but yeah you can find it in the reddit thread. Dude knew about stuff in PoE2 that wasn't public at the time.

I generally agree but I'm not as sure. A possible issue is that lots of money was at stake. If Take Two made conditions that he couldn't say anything then he wouldn't because of the large sum of money at stake. Take Two could have wanted it kept quite to minimize potential bad publicity.

I have no clue what really happened but that seems like a reasonable possibility to me?

Take-Two Interactive is based in New York and has no involvement with Path of Exile.

GGG is owned by Tencent Holdings, based in Guangdong in China.

I've heard of gags being put on when you leave, hell, I've been there, but I've not seen one where goodbye was considered subverting the contract.

Maybe Tencent is different? Not sure this would even be legal because it would go beyond the spirit if not the letter of the gag clause.

Saying: "Goodbye! I wish you the best in your endeavors." is not illegal.

Saying: "Goodbye! I wish it didn't end this way." Maybe. Have to read it.

Saying: "Goodbye! Good luck. You'll need it." Probably.

Seems he was forced out as nothing else make sense.
you dont create a game and just leave it without some sort of message.

He got tired of being CEO rather than coding himself, so he retired.
Then he got tired of being retired so he started working on an old-school rpg.

people on the forums and reddit were calling for chris to resign on a daily basis, he became a hate figure. people were abusing him personally, saying he had ruined the entire game, his vision was destroying the game and calling for him to be fired from the company.

his name became a source of absolute toxicity, every forum page i went on every global chat i opened, everywhere poe was being discussed you couldnt go any amount of time without a mob of people attacking chris personally over every problem the game had.

can you imagine what his email inbox must have looked like? can you imagine waking up to that every day?




he couldnt develop the game, he couldnt have input. the game has become something where his input as a guy who loved diablo 2 is now not allowed, the player base will not allow him to have his own input into his own game and are calling for him to resign every day. and if he does resign not only do those people feel vindicated but its massively harmful to peoples faith in the game and the company. those that actually love chris, many of them will see this as end times, because the other absolutely toxic narrative we hear 24/7 is that tencent have taken over poe.

its either chris and his vision is the worst thing in the universe and has destroyed poe or tencent is the worst thing in the universe, its taken over poe and destroyed it. and thats on chris too btw, because chris sold the game to them, he sold out the game, sold us out as players and ran away with the money leaving the game to be run into the ground by tencent. that is a narrative ive sat here and had put up with reading for years, non stop people saying this, and theyre still saying it.


either way chris resigning and even the mention of chris existing just feeds these 2 cancers that are eating this games community and causing it real lasting harm.




i dunno why chris left, maybe he did have a falling out, that absolutely makes sense too if he had a bust up with jonathan or whatever. but if i were him i would have just walked away and not said anything too. almost every time i come to these forums now days i feel like never coming back with all the hate and toxicity, and its not even directed at me im just a bystander. this community stopped deserving people like chris.
