Auction House when?

I agree with most of the stuff here about why no in game AH exists but totally disagree on the argument of players relying on AH for only path of upgrades.

Ive got 500 or so hours in this game and RNG has NEVER granted me an upgrade PERIOD. Not even while levelling it is ALWAYS garbage. Yes Ive figured the crafting out to a degree but in my use case trade is the only real path for progression.

The only way to get good loot in this game is to save up the DIVs to afford either crafted gear that got the unicorn stats out of luck.

OR have the deep currency and items + knowledge of how to use them all to craft said items yourself.

The 2nd option also has never worked for me.

Trade is 100% why my char has progressed.

Never been RNG.

Only RNG is for uniques and that also never happened...always got the crap rolls on every one.

Basically instant AH is a thing that makes game too easy for leveling. BUT it's not an argument to not introduce it. We still can require gold for trade, perhaps much more gold, so player can afford 3-4 items per campaign. But for the endgame it doesn't matter at all. It might be paid slots for trading, comissions, paid some amount per hour/day for tabs or slots.
So endgame users will trade endgame items, and it will be costly for trading leveling items.
Leveling players will trade leveling items and related stuff.
It might be half/automated trades so you will enter seller's hideout and take items from NPC or trade stash for example.

There are a TONS of solutions to improve trading and reduce scam.
But GGG don't play the game they do, so they don't understand our problems.

EXTREMELY VALID 🔥💯

AGREE 100% 😏👌

SIMPLE AS THAT, NO DEBATE. 😎

AS YOU SAID, “There are TONS of solutions to improve trading and reduce scam.” And every single one of them is hotter than a fresh deal. 🔥💸

DING DING! You just hit on the root of the problem!

Why do people want to trade items? Because they cant find/gamble loot they can use that provides an increase in power/ability!

The problem is so bad that enough people are butting their heads against the current trade implementation and saying 'jeez, this sucks so much! Why cant we just have an auction house and do away with this silliness that enables scammers?'

So if GGG does NOT want an auction house, they need to reduce the demand on the current trade system, which means...we need better loot drops.

I never wanted an AH in diablo 2 or borderlands because enough loot dropped that I was able to make incremental improvements or sidegrades to my character. I barely touched it in diablo 3 and only went back after they removed it because they designed their itemization AROUND the RMAH and made the entire playing experience suck because of it. I only went back to D3 after they fixed thier itemization, not because they removed the AH.

TL;DR - people want an AH because loot drops suck and we have to rely on the law of averages in a big sample to get decent gear. Let us find the gear and we wont NEED an AH.
This is a different case.

Your point is valid, but it does not eliminate the need for an AH.

We need an AH for many reasons—millions, in fact.

By the way, an in-game auction system is not essential. What is essential is instant trade.

It’s that simple. This is the core of the discussion.

If someone is against instant trade, they are a scammer. There is no other explanation.

However, if someone wants instant trade but not an AH, that’s a different matter.

Clear your minds, guys. Who in their right mind wouldn't want instant trade?
I'd settle for instant trades, sure. It would mean I wouldnt have to hang out in my hideout waiting for whispers or interrupt my maps to sell an item. If I want to sell a bunch of junk(?) for 1 ex while i do other things, its wins all around - cheaper gear and I'm spending more time PLAYING instead of TRADING.

Good job reducing the problem to it's simplest form. Lets fix it! :)

I think they play the game. I feel certain there are employees at GGG that play more hours than the average player. I mean just demographics, the people that work at a gaming company tend to be the type people that enjoy playing video games.

There are solutions but the problem of having a loot finding game where most player buy their loot instead of finding it is a real problem.

I believe they will eventually create a better trading system. The gamer trend is more and more 'quality of life' so the pressure will build. But I don't think it will be until after EA and after they have seasons on a smooth schedule. It could be even longer. Diablo 3 had an AH, then removed it. Diablo 4 has even less trading support than POE2. Market research might show that an AH does not increase long term engagement.

I hope they find the right balance. But until then I am still enjoying the game even without trading.

I use 'auction house' loosely as a generic term. Items do not actual have to be auctioned. They could be instant buy prices. I don't really see much benefit in going through all the trouble of actually implementing true auctions.
Current system could just be modified so you can use the stash tabs and the trade is automated. Maybe a check to make sure you have the space to receive item before it completes.
