As a treasure-hunting game, the effort and reward are totally disproportionate!!
Sorry, I was being subtle, this game has no reward. From level 30 to level 90, I have to bought all my gears. The gears I got by myself are all garbage. The treasures dropped in Diablo are at least usable by your profession. The drops in this game are just a bunch of useless crap!! You can see the level 10 value on the items that explode from the highest-level monsters. The items are completely random. 99% of the legendary item are garbage. For the remaining 1%, you have to wear the full graduation gears to fight the final boss. To fight the final boss, first you have to buy a ticket!!! Yes, you have to buy it. Because you can't get a ticket at all. However, when you really spend thousands of dollars to build a full graduation gears to fight the boss, you will find that the boss will still kill you instantly, without any room for maneuver, and the ticket will be invalid after death. A bunch of farmers are driving up prices, and gears prices are always increasing faster than you can get them

Itemization right now still lacks a lot. What made PoE1 a great game was the power to craft exceptional items, were you could poor time to get to different points were the gear feels worthwhile chasing.
Right itemization probably was stitched for the EA, and they probably wanted it to be straight forward as in "usable" , "at least tradable" or junk.
Imagine this as an example :
Armor : magic 150+ life, 50+ spirit. Craft able if you want to risk it, and at least tradable for someone else to pick it up and try crafting it. The risk goes to the slammer.
Armor: 45 life, 35 spirit, low usage level like 20-25. At lest tradable.
Armor: 20 life, 50 spirit, level 74, requirements -x% and light radius ( do not know if it can spawn there just as an example), armor and es . Useless for crafting and trading and useless for you probably at that level. Not entirely useless though as you can slam probably a annulment and hope for the best but yea you get my drift.
So it's pretty straight forward as I explained.
What it needs to make it feel worthwhile, is the possibility to alter odds, let's say rare with 20 life, 50 spirit, level 74, and 20% cold resistance. We need a way to try to safely remove life and try to pick up a more usable value, and a way to get something else on it. Like meta crafting. That would be convoluted and may require knowledge of possibilities and bla bla bla. And they probably didn't want to bloat the game in EA and just have people play the game to get feedback about how the end game unfolds, progression and other stuff...
I remember that at start we didn't have a good way of crafting outside of masters missions...which soon were integrated as benches, mechanics, and things like that.

There are NO WIPES, EVER, and if you've played PoE1 you know that so why post a blatant untruth?
A new LEAGUE is not a WIPE of previous characters.
