What Is Killing Me??

In POE 2 Chaos damage does not bypass energy shield only poison which is a damage over time effect does. Bleed will kill you with physical damage overtime once damage runs through Energy Shield and Mana leaving your life exposed.
My character has 7,000 ES and 1000 unreserved life but I just got instantly one shot through my 14,000 energy shield (due to grim harvest) by a random mob and I have no idea what happened. Fire resist 78 Cold resist 76 Lightning resist 76 Chaos resist 75 Physical Damage reduction is only 7% but Physical shouldn't bypass a 14K energy shield so what the hell happened? I'm an infernalist and I am trying to avoid CI since it conflicts with Beidat's Will on the infernalist Ascendancy tree reducing my spirit. Anyone able to identify causes and solutions??? Knowing this game, could be anything. Where there any snake like monsters around you? I know they nerfed them, but knowing how insane they were before, they could still pack a punch in a big pack.

While Chaos doesn't bypass ES, it does do double damage against it. A huge Chaos / Physical hit could stack a pretty big poison (or bleed) that will chew through 1K life pretty fast. Particularly if you're moving at the time. And keep in mind that while Grim Harvest can overflow your ES, staying at the absolute maximum is hardly a constant effect, and since there's no clear UI while overcharged, it's pretty easy to be just slightly over your normal maximum instead of near the full double.

4 out of 5 deaths I ask myself the same question. A combat log would go a long way to learning the game and improving the weaknesses of a character.

In a game where you are supposed to learn, improve and get better... they sure do not understand how to give you information and feedback to let that happen.
Some sort of log, or s brief death summary letting you know in a round about way what killed you would be a good thing. Then remove that in Ruthless mode for the Timmays. I'm done buying anything until we get some clarity on the future of POE1 and POE2 and I know GGG plans to spend effort on a game I want to play.
Tell us if POE1 still has your top tier support or if POE2 will get a mode for more casual play. |

Well, if there's 75% chaos resist, then quad damage would still require a 16k hit to oneshot through 14k shield and 1k hp. Or close enough for culling.
I assume health reserved was still half or less, so it would have to somehow go through the shield. Zaanus:
