Question on Poison and Chaos Damage

"
I'll try to keep and eye on Wither and Despair, but its hard to determine if they're contributing much.

On Doryani after transforming in cruel act 3, it took me roughly 1.5 poison cloud duration (7.8 sec x 1.5) with no debuffs and a little over half duration with debuffs.

Edit
I forgot that I didn't have 2nd curse, Temporal Chains either in former case.
So it's like x2 damage (x1.4 x1.4 in average) ?

Welcome to PoE2, where element damage means jack all and you stack phys on every non caster because every skill is %phys convert.

Appears like an easy design choice to ease the complexity of the game but it does leave quit the sour taste for diverse true elemental/chaos building.

do you mean phys on your weapon?

i dont think phys% on the tree etc works on conversion skills now. afaik the conversion happens before the increased and more damage %s are applied, so if you convert 80% of your phys to lightning then getting phys% scaling will only apply to the 20% not converted.

with a weapon you can just ignore a conversion and feed it whatever base damage you want.

with the ailment dots, god, im not sure about all these new formulas. im rly not sure i like how theyre scaling. i get that maybe from a balance perspective there are plus sides to how its working in terms of double dipping etc. but it feels really counter intuitive to take fire damage or chaos damage and not have that scale burning or poison. no player trying to just feel their way through whats going on is going to understand that.

i dunno, even as a poe1 vet who understood almost all mechanics and scaling in that game for 12 years i look at these dots and it takes me a moment to get my head around them. i have to see the explanation i cant intuit how they work in terms of what will scale them, and i feel like i could in poe1.

thats not good.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

For poison build you really want to be a pathfinder,

The ascendancy node that says number of poisons on a target is doubled, doubles the maximum number of poisons you can have after all the other increases.

So with + to number of poisons on passive tree and support gems you would end up at 4 i think. With the pathfinder ascendancy that +4 gets doublet to +8 poisons at the same time doubling your dps.

Oh, wow, I can't believe I missed that.

As for why I went Witch, I enjoyed making hybrid characters in PoE1, and I was hoping I could leverage the chaos portion of poison, but its not affecting it nearly as much as I would have thought. GGG have done a bang-up job at keeping hybrid builds quite limited; just trying to keep up with stat requirements is a pain. :)
Yeh, it's a bit odd.
At the gathering before GamesCom 2 years ago, I said that I liked offclassing and thus hated the Scion in PoE1 for just having no identity I could diverge from, and someone, I believe it was Jonathan, told me that they'd do away with the "does everything a little" class in the middle and there'd be more meaning to that again. From fuzzy memory.

But pathfinder is a very obvious contender for "if you want poison, pick this and nothing else".
Other classes work better there, you can create a minion warrior or Infernalist Archer, but poison is really just on Pathfinder. Maybe shadow will have an ascendancy that rivals that, or, who knows, even Druid.

Speaking of poison, anyone knows how "on death" poison effects stack?

If I pick Contagious Contamination on Pathfinder and use Herald of Plague, and then equip the Killjoy gloves, will mobs near the killed target recieve 1, 2, 3, or 4 poisons?

Isn't a "no" better than an ignore?
