We SHOULD be able to switch ascendancies. Maybe for something like 1m gold. This is EA, let us test.
Title says it all. Testing ascendancies is part of the EA play. Having to re-level the same class you already leveled to 80+ is just friction for the sake of friction really.
I see no harm in creating a sort of mechanism to allow us (even with a bit of punishment, or cost) to switch. Refunding your passive tree is easy and great. No reason ascendancies wouldn't be part of that deal. Last bumped on Jan 17, 2025, 6:15:35 PM

Please. I like the blood witch, but I feel like its true power doesnt come until 4th ascendancy. Its a really fun challenge but using life to cast skills on the squishiest class in t16's is hard lol. Mostly countered it all with leech, but I kind of just want to relax tbh.

I don't think this has been particularly well thought out
All very well asking people to play different classes, as they have different interactions with the passive tree, different voice lines, weapons etc but here we're being asked to repeat the exact same content with the exact same character up until ascendancy, and even then differences will be minor probably until the 3rd or 4th one Talk of this fitting thematically doesn't really ring true when there are plenty of other things that are off-theme that get included anyway (for instance deleting content you haven't done already in a map if you die, like poof they just disappear job done no need to hang around any more) |

Indeed. A place for testing.
And they want you to test the build, and the ascendency, through the entire progression path. They do not want you to take a level 80 character, respec into a new ascendency, only only test that ascension in endgame state. They want you to make a new character, on which you do the new build, and take each ascension step at the level appropriate time, testing it at all the different points of progress between level 1 and 100. From early game to endgame, not just endgame. |

In the recent interview with DM and Ghazzy, they want to stick to locked ascendancies and did not have a compelling reason as to why.
It's like the old parent's line "no, because I said so". Creating a character to run through the campaign and get to level 85-90 (In my opinion, this is where your build comes together), only to realize this is the wrong ascendancy and you can't change ascendancies even though you can fully change the tree, your gear, your spell gems...etc. Is a serious WTF moment. Even if you explain the ascendancy differences earlier in the campaign (as suggested in the interview), you won't really know until you use it and feel the interaction. This happened to me on my Mercenary, so I deleted the character and will no longer play that class. Hopefully they see where this is going. |

Its the free to play business model gotta keep em playing.
make em make a new class so we fill their stash with crap so they have to buy stash tabs..... Serioulsy theres no reason not to allow for a respec especially since its EA and like folks said arent we supposed to be testing stuff out? Some of the decisions boggle me i dont know whether its just arrogance or just sheer stubborness by the devs, or maybe..hmm |

" So much this! |

It's just another example of a PoE system that punishes experimentation and pushes people into premade meta builds someone made for them. It's bad, and there's no defense as to why it's not bad.
The more More you have, the less Less matters

" 100%. They are taking the game in a good direction and stuff is getting done, but they need to understand that testing means testing in all areas. Endorse and enable, don't punish. |

I like the idea of going to a trial master and respeccing for a large gold cost but you have to reearn your points.
