HC SSF "Training wheels" build - ember fusillage minion witch

Why meat shield on SRS?
|
|
" It was due to minion instability. I don't know if this build is viable anymore since minion nerf. Doubt that it isn't. |
|
" I was about to post that relying on a minion build in any GGG game, especially for survivability, is just tempting fate. |

I think I inadvertently made a version of this build that is pretty good. It uses the same bones as your build, but it does not go "full" MoM - it takes the x% of damage is taken from mana before life nodes on the way to adverse growth and gets glazed flesh for recoup and some mana regen nodes and some life regen.
Ascendency started out like yours - get the hound. This hound eventually just becomes a meat-shield with the loyalty gem for some periodic damage reduction. I use weapon set points pretty strategically with the demon-form point - which I get last. With the ascendency node for gain x% life as spirit as my 4th pick. the first three being the hound, demon form, and the damage mitigation one. I used a storm mage (for shock - stormfire support gem is good here) and some skeletal reavers on top of a couple skeletal warriors who would just go crazed-berserker at the mobs and eventually die, but when they died that's when I demon-formed and used incinerate with CoI fireball until I wanted minions back again. You have to use weapon points strategically here - the demon form is considered it's own "set" so you can manage your spirit that way, and weapons are disabled in demon form so I use both wand + scepter and ember fusillade when I have the minions out. I am trying to work in some sort of cast on minion death - flame wall shenanigans so I can fully focus on ember fusillade-ing and directing my minions but so far it's not a huge hassle to just self cast it although maybe I just need some more jeweler orbs to get the right supports in for it to make it gain more energy and cast more reliably. |

After accidentally dying with my overly greedy enfolding dawn archer lich to Viper (probably should have changed my "take more chaos damage and grant more chaos damage to minions ring to a chaos res ring).
Tried training wheels again, and conclude this is probably one of the strongest builds for the campaign which does not need a single unique. Strong recommend if you want to clear everything fast, and don't want to die. |

Currently lvl 70, build is still viable for everything else except breaches (minions die nearly instantly, then you get swamped & need to tap out), will need to figure out something that has more clear than storm skellies, potentially detonate dead.
Have been a bit unlucky with drops, so I'm on the edge of dying on a daily basis. Let's see how far training wheels gets. |

Got to 77. Managed to chance ulr boots, and 9 storm mages were clearing really well (everything except breaches). Gear wasn't otherwise good, I was behind at least 3 in minion levels (amulet was only +1, scepter +3), 50%ish armor with 1500 hp + 1500 ES + 1000 (MoM).
What happened? Abyss dog ice lazered me twice, first ate the charm, the second froze me so I had to tap out (would've been certain death). But, I didn't wait the instance to renew, instead went back -> had still 1000 hp and 1/3 of my mana, and no enemies in sight so I unpaused. Don't know what DOT was still on me, but I died instantly. Whoopsie - lessons learned, the tap out & comeback is not safe as I thought. But the build is very solid for clearing the campaign at least, anyone struggling with the campaign in HC SSF, consider trying this one out. |
