GGG, why did you make armour so bad on purpose?
It's not just bad at doing what it's supposed to do, it penalizes your movement AS WELL AS being terrible at what it's supposed to do and you made it this way on purpose.
I just want to know why. Last bumped on Jan 16, 2025, 9:40:08 PM

Taking life off the tree caused this, and making giants blood a mandatory keystone.
Defensive layering is important, armor alone does not cut it, but scaling life now that it is removed from the tree means you have to get good rolls on every peice of gear, and huge pressure on other mods on items to fit in soulcores and other vectors of life scaling. All of these are out of reach of new players and during league start. Imagine if ES had no % on tree and they just made you get it on gear to get to current values, and they needed to get 450+ int to wear a focus after hitting maps, and had to use rune slots for %ES instead of res or damage, newer players playing ES would be fucked. So your average warrior has barely any HP, needs to wear goofy uniques to scale ES, and absolutely must wear a shield. But 1hers are dogwater that giants blood becomes mandatory, which again leads to yet another source of pressure on gear. Warrior feels alright when you have this gear imo, but its just fucked up that everyone else has a bunch of easily accessible non gear ways like passive tree to close that gap in gear. Theres the other problem of how armor scales. Having 20k armor is way more than 2x stronger compared to 10k armor. 10k es vs 5k? Ya its just half as good. So basically get 150+ life rolls, 25+ str rolls, resistances that are capped without using rune slots, and high armor rolls on all your gear, a good shield, and warrior starts feeling like a warrior. So just like armor, the entire feeling of warrior defenses is a curve that squashes any low or mid investment builds until the peak. Where other defensive scaling builds have much smoother progression from early to end game. Last edited by BossOfThisGym#2062 on Jan 15, 2025, 5:12:41 AM

" Yeah none of that explains why they decided to make armor so much worse than every other defensive option, including worse than itself from PoE 1. I don't care about what has to be done to get it "working", I want to know the logic behind the decision to make the thing that's supposed to protect you not protect you. |

A good max health value...
A good ES value... I good armor/evasion value... I want spirit+/movement/(some worthy state) too because 100 spirit/lack of movement/(whatever else) is boring... Oh and...where does that leave resistances!? Ah...I'm so happy that I rolled Thorns damage and Maximum Mana... I'd like to be slowly chipping away at upgrades, but this game is full of "throw it away". Its depressing and exhibition events and exotic coins are hard to come buy for some crafting joy. I believe they just took baseline Armor verbatim from PoE 1. Armor in PoE 1 is pretty bad when you look at it by itself, but there are plenty of supports that PoE 2 lacks that make Armor better.
Hopefully the upcoming changes will make Armor not feel like a dead stat in terms of defense. |

They hate melee and they made a video explaining why but I didn't watch it.

" They copy-pasted armor from PoE 1 while removing Life nodes and turning Damage from bosses & mobs to 11 . That's all there is to it . ICE BELL RINGER ~ Endgame Farming ~ Pinnacle Eraser ~ Gamepad Gameplay ~ Low Budget ~ 0.1.1 Version

" If community testing and the wiki is to be believed, the armour calculations for poe 2 are actually worse. Hopefully this is something that they will be addressing in the upcoming patch. Last edited by Horky#6225 on Jan 15, 2025, 9:14:01 PM

" armour doesnt penalise your movement. body armours and shields do, not as in armour body armours, all body armours. an energy shield chest will reduce your movement speed. theyre rebalancing the problematic monsters in the next patch, when they are happy with where monster damage is at they can work out the best way for armour to function. it will get there its just going to take some time. its EA, just play a ranger, have some fun, try out an armour build after the big balance patch and when its still not completely correct give them feedback and itll get another balance pass, and another. a year from now the game will be ready for release. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

" Well you're not going to get an answer from random ppl on the forums..... We know as much as you do. I'm sure when we see they changes they make we'll get some more insight into it but that's gonna be the best answer you'll get. They aren't going to make videos about why something isn't working like they thought it would, they'll just change it and say this is how it works now. |
