Endgame XP loss [GGG Please Hear me out!]

What do they mean when they say that XP loss is the "identity" of the game anyway? Meaningful loss? The majority of players either hate it or are apathetic about it. Where is the "meaning" when that is the majority sentiment? Answer: there is no meaning or substance to the loss other than the negative sentiments it makes players feel. GGG or the few who defend XP loss speak as if, after a character dying to something in-game, that the player can immediately remediate whatever the issue that caused the death and subsequent loss when a lot of deaths are caused by lack of adequate defense especially against elites and bosses. Runaway inflation pushes access to materials, currencies, and gear in the trade market and GGG hasn't come up with anything to replace Magic Find so "meaningful stuff off of the ground" really doesn't happen for most players. What a mess of a game that has good bones in it. It's as if GGG doesn't want players to fully enjoy their games. For every 1% of happiness and enjoyment with the game they insist on maintaining 0.5% sourness mixed in. Most players finish a "league" with mixed feelings; enjoying the campaign and the class mechanics but walking away with very little gained in the endgame, if at all. |

I mean D3 had this already figured out. They gave you a shrine buff with increased xp gain which you lost on death.
In PoE2 they could make it so that upon finishing a map without dying you get 10% increased xp buff (for maps of equal or lower tier) which is lost upon death. There ya go, problem solved. The major problem with the current xp loss mechanic is that it deletes already earned progression. That just sucks. Especially endgame since it's the only form of progression you have left. I am old enough to remember durability loss upon repair on weapons in diablo 1. Shit mechanic that punished you for playing the game. There is a reason it was canned in D2 and subsequent arpgs. Same should be true for progression deleting xp loss mechanics. |
