EXP loss on death - why? + boss mechanics

Without a punishment for failing players would just keep failing upwards. Why would anyone promote something like this?

Are players under the misconception that just because there is level 100, everybody should reach it? Because that would simply be false. Level 100 is something you set a goal for to reach and then work towards that goal. Like for getting the season challenge completed.

Just get comfortable with the simple fact that most characters will reach maybe level 80-90. See this as your max level. Many guides are even set up for that to be the skill point limit. Since you do not lose levels when dying, there is no issue.

Are players mad about the XP loss because they want the feeling of working towards an improvement, despite failing? You still have the currency/item drops. What effect do you think would one or two more levels have? Some levels more is not some sort of wonder potion that prevents you from failing. It would not help you.

There is always the false "argument" that it would be a punishment for no reason. Well there is a reason! You failed. That's the reason. The correct way to handle failure is to take a look at the character and playstyle and think about what can be improved. Not just blaming the game. It is not the games fault.
Remember having consequences for your actions?

Guess not.
This game almost takes me back to the days of EverQuest for the frustration. I did not believe a game could do that now days. I thought game companies learned. But nope PoE 2 has managed to create the same frustration I felt way back then. Great job GGG. This game is just plain horrible. There is no crafting, it is all gambling. The loot is pure crap. The penalty for dying in end game is horrible. Why do I even play this miserable game. The Dev's do not care. They only care about their ego. This game is made for people who are streamers that play all day and do not have to go to work 8 to 10 hours a day. I come home from a long day at work only to die 5 times in the end game with no drops or exp. So what did I accomplish tonight? Nothing. Well at least GGG has their ego still. Congratulation's to GGG for making a game just as frustrating as EverQuest.
People who think the game is not for casual is denial of the reality that Path of Exile 2 success depend on a broader audience. Grinding Gear still think they are some small hippy company who is catered to hardcore idiots.

This could not be true because Path of Exile 1 went from silly hard to semi-casual friendly game.

Today, a casual can hope onto Path of Exile 1 and just simply enjoy it, while trying to navigate a ship ton of crafting information. Path of Exile 2 at the moment, is a fantasy of the Developers where no one want to play.

Grinding Gear really need to get out of the door and touch grass and realize they are now one of the mainstream, and being mainstream gives them less of a chance to make mistakes like doubling down on outdated mechanic that doesn't reward players - the one portal, losing exp and items and map benefits doesn't promote learning, which ironically, Dark Soul do.

They mistook what Dark Soul is, and came out with a terrible hack version of it, in a genre where loot and skills come hand in hand with time sink.

At the moment, the game punished you with nothing - not even the chance to try again. It is irritating and disrespectful of the time of their customers.

Grinding Gear is going to learn the hard way that customers, not them, is the key to their survival.

lmao, gatkeeping much ?
OP talks about XP loss on death and you draw the comparison with mobile games just as a way to discredit his opinion without even trying to have a serious discussion about the topic.
the xp loss is a stupid mechanic that serves no purpose in a game where, beyond t10, random oneshots can happen at any moment.

i get it, you need to seek validation so you can believe you're better than those filthy "casuals". God forbid somebody played a game to enjoy themselves, thats outright preposterious. gaming should be a chore.

The xp loss is a great thing that makes the game more fun for me.
This is extremely enjoyable for me, and someone calls it "stupid". I responded to that. If he had said "i don't like losing XP, i wish it didn't happen", that would have been fine. "Yes, this is your idea, you can wish for it."

Coming to what you said. As a blood mage, i die once in 200 maps on average. If you have 5 oneshoot deaths in every 10 maps, the problem may be on you. Think about it.
Support dont mute this people , all of this in-fighting was created by GGG and thier game design , people are right to be angry .

i support both sides , i hope in the upcoming GGG video they tell us once for all .
you gonna keep punishing players or not , so i know to move on or wait .

Why but why ggg just not make more realms with different rules .
one without the death penalty coz that is the one i want to play.

call it a noob cry baby realm i dont care , that is the one for me.

In everquest you could loose the level, when dying too often. In PoE2 you can try around some stuff right after you leveled up. You can test out your limits without any problems.

The exp loss is giving a character a hard limit of the level it can reach with the gear/skills.

I really find it fine this way. You will hit a spot, where you either stay with your level or improve the gear.
If you start to die too often at, lets say level 82, you will have to farm lower maps, or switch the way to play the character in a way that you do not die this often anymore.

The double penalty (exp loss and loosing maps) is a bit harsh, but still fine (imo).

But after each time that i leveled, i have the chance to try around some stuff again. Right at this point dying does not matter. If you dont have any exp, you cannot loose any.
