EXP loss on death - why? + boss mechanics
Why is this a mechanic? The YouTube channel Josh Strife Says just put out a video discussing this mechanic and I have to agree with him, it's a bad mechanic and should not be a mechanic considering most people who will be playing this game are working adults with limited quantities of time. inb4 "But Final Fantasy 11 had this mechanic" yeah, it's a dated mechanic that gives artificial difficulty and provides real, material punishment.
It's frustrating to deal with. It doesn't make the game harder, it just punishes for no reason. Putting mechanics in a boss fight and on mobs makes the game harder and more rewarding to play through, dying due to an explosion you didn't see with all the effects going on when you fight a rare and losing all of your exp for it just is distasteful, and will make people quit playing sooner rather than later. Anyway I just wanted to add to the endless sea of voices out there about this game rn. I'm enjoying myself in Cruel difficulty on a Ranger as well but Cruel is pretty badly tuned as well, boss-wise. Instead of adding additional boss mechanics it's "play perfect and don't get slapped or you start over". I would have thought the gaming sphere as a whole understood this was bad design after all these years, but maybe not. Anyway keep up the good work GGG, the game feels so good to play overall just like Diablo 2 used to, and the environments are so beautiful. The overall game loop just needs some fixing with exp loss and bosses per se, I guess. Last bumped on Jan 10, 2025, 6:37:13 AM

That stupid mechanic is in the game because the devs are m.r..s who cant get passed their Diablo 2 phase.
For some reason they think that casual gamers who just want to play a game want to deal with their BS like XP Loss on Char Death or Encumbrant Tetris like Inventory. Some people just cant design their own system. They just ripped-off FF7 Materia (Gems, support gems), FF10 Spheres (Skill Map) but couldnt properly manage making something that makes sense. Thats why PoE1 never became an AAA title like the Witcher series and always was a niche arpg for hardcore fans. PoE2 will be the same. |

Weird that you are frustrated in cruel about exp loss mechanic, you have to kill like 10-20 mobs to get back what you had 😁 Exp loss mechanic is well known for all poe1 players so you just have to accept it.
In high endgame around lvl 94+ you can use omen of amel that reduce exp loss to 2.5% (so you’ll lose just fee house of playing instead of whole day😁) IGN: ___ACE___ Last edited by aceboss#7347 on Jan 9, 2025, 1:28:21 PM

Because it adds friction.
Im getting really close to 95 on my warrior, I found 2 audiences last night, and my chaos res isn't capped in SSF and that fight can be kinda iffy without it especially since I actually have to fight him because my DPS isn't good enough to one shot him, so running these besides losing the audience also might wipe out a couple hours of mapping worth of XP. Without that? I just go in no problem if I die I have 5 more portals and I lose nothing and risk virtually nothing. Last edited by BossOfThisGym#2062 on Jan 9, 2025, 1:58:10 PM

Why?
Because it separates the men from the boys. |

I hate exp loss. Having to spend *hours and hours* of experience grind just to ATTEMPT a boss to LEARN how to fight it - what the F?
It makes me show up to map boss's so overleveled I delete them in one shot. I dont care about how fun the fights were to do, I'm not losing hours of play time. Ive got capped res's, 55% block, over 14k EHP and I'm in Softcore and Zarek gets to skull tap me for my last two whole days worth of experience? The games trained me that things on the ground are dangerous, so when they put things on the ground I stay away of them...so the boss insta kills me. And I've no idea how or why it happened. Im just not going to get my 4th ascendancy, its not worth it. A hard challenge is great. Punishment is BS. Im not interested, and the game doesn't tell you anything about what just happened. What mob hit me? What type of damage was it? List me the last 30 hits I took and give me all the details. Inform me so I can make correction. Dont just smash me in the back of the head with a hammer. Keep exp loss in Harcore or something? Last edited by EdwardReynolds#6959 on Jan 9, 2025, 4:48:32 PM

" You are dying. That is reason enough for you to be punished. Please make your discussions more logical. " GGG did not say that this game will be for casual players. There are people who love the things you complain about. This game does not have a simple mobile game design that you can consume completely in a few days. Everything in this game is what makes PoE what it is. Last edited by fatih4915#0193 on Jan 9, 2025, 5:09:36 PM

Mentioning professional clown, speaking of "artifical difficulty" and "dated mechanics". Yes. I do not value your opinion.

" lmao, gatkeeping much ? OP talks about XP loss on death and you draw the comparison with mobile games just as a way to discredit his opinion without even trying to have a serious discussion about the topic. the xp loss is a stupid mechanic that serves no purpose in a game where, beyond t10, random oneshots can happen at any moment. i get it, you need to seek validation so you can believe you're better than those filthy "casuals". God forbid somebody played a game to enjoy themselves, thats outright preposterious. gaming should be a chore. |
