Blood Mage?

I leveled my bloodmage with gas arrow and ignite headpiece all the way to level 65 or something till I can use the gear I bought from my main. Without taking any ascendency points even tho I did them. I tried going bloodmage for 2-3 levels it feels like you are trying to run while shooting yourself in the foot at the same time.
Best way to level bloodmage is not playing bloodmage by any means till you have full gear for the build you have seems like something needs to change/rework.
