I take it you didn't pay attention to the story while playing through then? They do have lore connections, so "related to the rest of the game".
They also teach valuable things, Sekhema is focused on attrition (honor) and correct pathing (endgame strategy). Chaos is about consequences for choices, knowing what your build can and cannot handle (Sekhema also has parts of that).
Unlike lab is POE1, these actually require a minimum level of player skill (less so with chaos) and isn't a brain dead "just go right" challenge. The first 2 (and in the future 3) sets of points you have unlimited attempts at (if you do 1 of each type), but you still have player agency to decide which mechanic you want to use to ascend.
I totally agree with you here, but lemme ask you something: How am I able to do correct pathing if the Sekhema takes away the tools I could use to do a correct pathing? Since it can send me to random rooms, or take away my rewards and boons, or give me two afflictions per room plus the base affliction the room already has, or force me to choose between the bad or the not-so-bad affliction? This is unsettling
Ignorance is bliss when it's not fatal.
Oblivion is the fate of all things.

I gave up on Trials with my Sorc (spark mage), I was laughing through it on my minion witch; difference was night and day.
Just get crowded by tons of melee or terrible persistent trial penalties.
Sorc had to stand to cast, but you cant stand or get swamped or arena debuf kills you...
I gave it a red hot go for hours over 3 days. In the end I closed PoE2 and went and did something else that actually was fun.

I just pretend we have only 2 ascendency tests. Then I don't play the game because I feel like I can't make any meaningful progress in any metric after finishing the campaign.
Progress!

No, they don't. To teach something, choices and consequences need an immediate, easy to understand connection. The relation between cause and effect needs to be obvious and predictable.
Both Sekhemas and Chaos are not that. It's multiple, subsequent random modifiers stacked on top of each other. An Affliction X taken in Room 2 might be something a build can handle, but if you have choices Y and Z in room 14 that, in combination with X completely bricks your build, you are just screwed. Nothing learned, nothing gained, just screwed by RNG.

Doing these trials is like filling out forms. Think you're done? Fill out another form! lol It's just soooooo long. How about a big boss fight instead?

Congratz to GGG for creating one of the best games I've played in a long time.
Shame on them for creating within said game the most unfun ascendancy trials I've ever played. They do feel like a chore.
It is called Fear of Success, or Shooting yourself in the foot.

This right here tells me two things. The first is you have completely misunderstood the design of the boss if you think things are happening completely without warning. Those "random" darts are triggered by you when you step on the giant metal plates, which are identical to the ones found through the trials to teach you the mechanic.
I had to step on identical plates in a Gauntlet the room before to open the doors.

This has to be a shitpost. The trials are fairly easy if you're overleveled (as in trying to get your 3rd ascendancy as a LEVEL 80 CHARACTER). The 3 floor Djinn Barya is around level 67, you should be able to almost delete out of existence the 3rd boss if you would "clear maps and kill bosses like a wind of death".
I am running Sekhemas or however you spell it for currency right now with a pretty cheap build (spent at best 3 divs for the whole gear). Might be a bit more expensive now due to inflation (so about 5-6). The trial is more than fine as a ranged character and okay as melee if you know what you're doing.
If you can't beat a level 67 boss as a level 80 character who said "I clear maps and kill bosses like a wind of death". then maybe is time to take a long look at your build instead of blaming the game.
The only thing I agree with is the annoyance of running all the floors over and over again. The trials should each have 1 floor.
Trial of chaos is a bit more RNG so you don't stack really bad buffs or get only bad choices, but it's still doable with a semi-decent build.
Take a look at your build, watch some guides and good luck. Or you can just buy a boost for 4th ascendancy if it's so hard, it's about 40 exalts.
It's not about the difficulty for me. I refuse to do them. I never touched these mechanics and i even skipped the leagues when they were introduced.

Likewise, I skipped Ultimatum and Sanctum Leagues; I hated both of those mechanics. I avoid them in PoE1.
When I got to the Trial of the Sekhemas and realized that it was Sanctum, I stopped playing. And if people are right about how much time it takes to do them, I'm even more glad I did.

I won't disagree the fact that the door and dart plates have no distinction except one is next to the color switch pillar isn't the most intuitive, but I'm guessing most people that have made it to the 3rd boss have triggered the darts via some of the plates by now. Could be better, but it is something that can be learned
