Bleed damage not working as intended

Bleed damage is not applying to any enemy with energy shield correctly. When applying the bleed to a normal, not-shielded enemy, it applies the damage over time to life. When applying it to an enemy with an active shield, either a normal shield that is always on an enemy, or an enemy with an energy shield modifier, it does not apply any damage over time at all. When applying it to a shielded enemy while it's shield is depleted, it applies the damage over time to life, and the damage over time persists through the energy shield recharge, bypassing energy shield.

Another report made on December 25th (https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3664681) also describes this issue. Bleed damage does not appear to be bypassing shields, or doing damage to shields at all, which is clearly unintended.

Thanks for your report, this is intended.

Bleed can only be applied if you deal damage to Life.

Bleed damage will bypass Energy Shield if a Bleeding enemy were to gain Energy Shield while they are Bleeding.
Damn... so bleed builds are Actually unplayable with the insane amounts of Energy Shield on mobs/bosses.

and do you guys actually think that's a smart or fun design ? how about, fk no? i was happily going bleed build in simulacrum when i had to fight kosis with a trillion energy shield and guess what happened then ? oh let me tell you, i had to fking go out of map and spend 10 divine to do FULL RESPEC including items out of bleed build so i can kill him.

i don't get how the heck is this logical to any of you in the developing team. like yes i get it , you will add an ascendency or something tomorrow that allows you to do bleed on ES or some shit. but this is POE, if there isn't a way for every single ascendency to play whatever they want it is not poe anymore.

The in-game tooltips for bleeding specifically state that only damage dealt to life contributes towards bleed, so I'm not sure why you'd make a build focusing exclusively on bleed damage when it's clearly stated in-game that this would do nothing against Energy Shield.

because GGG are making mistakes that used to exist in poe1 AND were fixed because they were annoying and no one ever liked them.
and they are just repeating those same mistakes in poe2. why the f are we repeating this shit?

"CI" monsters, full immunity to chaos damage were removed. any monsters that are fully immune to anything were removed "outside of expidition"

but here we are again, making monsters immune to something.

The new recent interview had something that contradicts thits. I quote "Bleed was supposed to be an antimage mechanic, you bleed someone PASS their energy shield (...) I'll look into it, its not meant to work that way [[That way being Bleed doesnt bypass ES]]". Here is link with included timestamp:https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2351668694?t=1h54m40s.

Could we get more information, as your post states it's intended but the interview states otherwise and very clearly? It's now very confusing to the point at least I don't know what is intended.

Some of my reasoning on the matter:

Bleed says in the game "Only applies if hits life", but then the witchhunter having bleed nodes only makes sense if "the guy that kills witches" could hit them bypassing ES. If not, it's worse at killing witches as they have immunity to bleed for all the ES.

But then if bleed bypassed ES against the player mages would suffer a lot, and chaos inoculation become useless as one bleed hit would kill the player, so maybe the "defense against bleed" and the "Way bleed works against monsters" had different approaches and the "defensive one" was used for both inflicted and received bleed.

I'm gonna bump this post. It would be great to get an answer so that I can decide whether to invest on bleed or not.
Bump.

Wanted to go bleed witchhunter, but after some research it seems the bleed points are sadly wasted.
bump in hope for a reply from GGG
