Why is the PoE fanbase so toxic?

I've been wondering the same and was actually thinking of doing a somewhat similar topic.

It's not really the toxicity that I've faced myself. Sure, people have mass downvoted my Reddit posts, called me names and insulted me on the forums, and told me that I'm an idiot on the global chat.

But it's even moreso the rampant hostility the playerbase has towards not just each other, but also the game, and its developer, that they play..

Like. I don't get it.

If you think the developer of a game you play is a moron who can't understand the most basic things and is just a complete greedy bastard, what the flying fucking fuck are you doing playing their game and thus supporting them?

Grow a fucking spine.

I've played a lot of different games in my time, and seen many toxic fanbases, but this one has to take the #1 spot. It's like the Dark Souls fanbase combined with the Call of Duty fanbase. Ask for help in chat (once, not spamming, not begging) and 20 neckbeards come out of the woodwork deriding you for daring to ask for help in a multiplayer game. If you aren't interested in helping, is it so hard to simply not say anything? The amount of people I've had to report for harassment is really mind-boggling.

For me the community and the forum have never been more toxic than now.
We've always "trolled" each other (more or less nicely) but it's as if now there are no limits.
It may be a simple feeling but I notice that more and more players (and mainly former players) have noticed this situation.
I even saw racist posts on the forum which I had never seen since 2014..
It wasn't like this in PoE1. The "git gud" gang must be from other games and they are new to PoE.
Its mainly just the trolls that are annoying or even dont play the game, to me its annoying saying other games are "dead" we all know which one, when the game is far far from dead and has its success, so more so those are the toxic people lol, both games are fun in their own way, but for a pretty big company they are god awful at responding or anything to help consoles with many issues and ill leave it at that for such a "great game" and company "GGG" seems to be shitting the bed with bug fixes and optimization for consoles, 1000s of posts and no response so alot of people are mad especially if you paid 30 bucks, people get mad if things arent fixed.... which they should have some kinda response but nothing..

Because all i want is to throw my ps5 in the trash and get a pc for decent filters and FPS.

not necessarily.

once upon a time "softcore" (non HC) was seen as a slur

some players will check your credentials by checking your gear and achievements before taking your comment into serious consideration.

many would even defend bad/archaic design implementations.

for example victim blame trade scam victims "you should have checked" etc, and fiercely declare the current trade system is fine.

theres a lot of "it does not affect me so it must not be an issue" crowd.

its so damn ironic that even when GGG themselves admitted poe1 melee is so bad its part of a reason why they made poe2 separate, some forummers would stubbornly claim, nah melee has always been fine.

but i will say a lot of negativity now stems from poe1 players wanting poe2 to be more of poe1, while poe2 players love poe2 the way it is.

It's not any more toxic than other "fanbases" and calling people neckbeards makes you part of that toxicity.
You are probably one of those who act lazy/rude/ignorant but doesn't either care or realize it and then you blame the whole community.

The word is "irony".

There are many players who complain about stuff we got used to in PoE 1, for a long time (death penalty, trade, one shots, etc). Also, there's the "I spent 30$ on an unfinished game" gang.

They will get used to how things work, or quit the game, this toxicity is just temporary I think.

Funny that people say that.. every single time I asked something in chat I was answered in a civilized form.

Maybe the secret is not to make your question sound like a complain? Most peopel dislike complains.

We can't judge - you provide no context, no example - just your vague perception..
next time - post some key/value when asking a question (;
we have to not only help you but also teach you how to ask for help while dealing with your lack of knowledge and entitlement - help us a little by at least trying to understand what is going on
also - are you american by any chance?
