Why is the PoE fanbase so toxic?

I've played a lot of different games in my time, and seen many toxic fanbases, but this one has to take the #1 spot. It's like the Dark Souls fanbase combined with the Call of Duty fanbase. Ask for help in chat (once, not spamming, not begging) and 20 neckbeards come out of the woodwork deriding you for daring to ask for help in a multiplayer game. If you aren't interested in helping, is it so hard to simply not say anything? The amount of people I've had to report for harassment is really mind-boggling.

I know many people are pretty upset with their customer service branch right now (me being one of those people). Prior to my account being unfairly banned I was a fanboy of the game, defending it every moment I saw fit. Are you using global chat? If so, there channels that are absolutely awful and some that are dedicated to being helpful. Global Chat channel 1 is basically useless and toxic.

I'm not a heavy user of it so I can't recall what numbers are helpful and specifically what each one helps with.

I seem to recall 4040 was for helping people get 40 challenges as an example.

Their customer service tends to be good but your situation happened over the holidays. I would guess they're on a skeleton crew and probably drowning from EA stuff.

The moment you charged back on your CC, you pretty much self-selected being banned. That's not new or unique to GGG.

I suspect if you had waited until after the holidays, you would have had your issue resolved. Your situation does suck.

Is it so hard to ignore the responses you dont approve of? Do you really need to report everyone who disagrees with you?

Actually i do agree with tooic starter. Community in D4 are more willing to help you with anything without asking anything in return

in fairness theyve got nothing better to do.

that s not my experience with poe 1. if you ask one specific question u usually have an answer.
if it starts being too generic you ll probably get a stupid joky response but nothing agressive
