Trial of the Sekhemas Discussion and Feedback

The randomness combined with the length of the trial is what makes it painful.

Something totally out of the player's control can end an attempt that they've spent a fair bit of time on.
It's worth noting that +2 maps are a dangerous thing.
They can cause players to get out of their depth -
playing maps that are too hard for the items they currently have. Herp Derp.

IYou complain about the RNG afflictions and honor system but that's the entire point. The afflictions are there for artificial difficulty. What would be the point of ascension if you steamroll it with gear? Afflictions can be avoided anyway if you path carefully. And honor system is trivialized with relics.

I'm more eloquent about this in the other thread but I'm not complaining about the rng, except for the certain death scenario I faced in the final boss room due to the globes dropping in the far corners. Impossible situation turned success to defeat at the turn of a sixpence, it's unfair
A game should not feel like a chore. I dont see why we cant redo the trails.

The only penalty should be Death and having to do it again. Having to search for another trail for hours, try it again then fail it over and over. The constant not progressing in the game is a deterrent to keep playing.

I want to progress to get ascendancy points.

Fair point. Failing a challenge in the trial should result in just failing the trial, not death, especially in HC.

I don't usually post on the forums but seeing nearly everyone hating on the trials is baffling to me. It's the only fun content in the game for me. I have a level 93, a level 87 and two level 75+ characters, three of them fully ascended. I've done it on melee (mace), ranged and spells. I like the trials so much whenever I get an entry drop I portal out without finishing the map.

I like the concept of a real challenge that test skill rather than gear (relics aside). The challenge, trivialized it may be with relics and dodge rolling, makes me feel I truly earn my "ascension". If I fail, it means I lack skill and I should try harder to earn it. You shouldn't be entitled to your ascendancy when you choose your character.

I think devs need to double down on the trials and make it more interesting/challenging.

Maybe it's just me, but PoE is not a game where I go look for a challenge. If I want that, I rather go to Sekiro, SIFU, Monster Hunter or even Nioh 2 (where there's an ARPG-like loot system) where the combat have more depth, mechanically speaking, where I find more enjoyable mastering those combat systems. Most of the fun I take from PoE is the build planning.

I remember one streamer (I think was ZiggyD) suggested each class or ascendancy having their own trial. That would test your mastery of that class, which would be great and make more sense thematically.

I think the trials are supposed to be an adventure. Like it's supposed to be something where you set aside a couple of hours, open up a can of soda and a bag of chips, and "go through the trials".

If that's the case, as I think may be the overall philosophy PoE 2 is striving for, then the game needs to signal this much better. Right now, everyone is playing with the expectation of 1-shotting everything, and if they aren't done the campaign and able to play the "real" game within 10 hours, they're pissed.

Player expectations need to be slowed way the fuck down... I think some people got it when it took them like 15 minutes and a couple of deaths just to reach the town in A1, at least I felt it throughout the first few acts. However, by the time I reached 3rd ascendancy trial, I was used to 1-shotting everything again and when I realized it would take me a few attempts to finish it, I got pissed.
