The Trade system is outdated.
" i pointed this out in a different thread. settlers was perfect because gold couldnt be traded and there were a ton of goldsinks. path2 released without all of that, and that is the major issue why botting is now a thing. tho that said. ggg is raking in money with all the ea keys the botters are forced to get. well played ggg, well played. I want to trade when I want to, not when someone else allows me. My time is valuable to me, not to others.
The current system leaves you at the mercy of other players. Do they whisper you to buy your item when you're available? Do you whisper them to buy when they're available and want to trade? Are they real or a bot? Are they price fixing? etc. You can spend more time spamming people for gear than actually playing the game. That is why it SUCKS, and when I have to do it, I end up quitting out of frustration. You know what GGG doesn't get when I quit from frustration? My money. I only buy supporter packs or spend money when a league is really good and fun, which has been rare. I never buy ahead of time, I buy after 2 weeks or so if I'm still there. Usually 1-2 weeks in I'm fighting with trade to try and scale the wall, so end up quitting. An AH solves all of that. I can go browse for items when I want and buy them when I want, not at the whims of someone or something else. |

For ARPGs an auction house is the worst idea possible, since items random(apart from uniques, but even those have random rolls) and you can easily miss evaluate an item worth, some can be very expensive if a roll is high or it has a combination of stats.
They introduced the currency exchange since that's easy to price-check and doesn't fluctuate that wildly. And Chris from GGG also made a trade manifesto with all their vision and how they want it to work, so don't expect to have an easier time trading gear: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2025870 |

" None of his reasoning justifies the system. If your entire premise is "I want an economy that is balanced and for this, the experience of the player needs to be absolute trash", then your premise itself is trash. Honestly I've never seen such delusional devs. |

" All of which are entirely worthwhile side effects of no longer needing to actually have buyer and seller meet up. |

" It's not gonna happen man, GGG has said from the beginning there wont be an AH. This trade system was even a compromise they wanted us to use in game chat and the trade forum. Do you remember having to use the trade forum to setup shops????? Now that sucked until poe.trade came along which aggregated all that. Than poe just made a trade site themself cause of the RMT ads and having a 3rd party manage something everyone in your game uses is never a good idea. " If there's anything to be learned from Chris's post, it's that he has no idea what he's talking about and lacks the ability to form an intelligent conclusion about trading systems. The extent to which in that post he convinced himself the opposite of the truth of easy vs hard trade systems and power disparities... |

I think I'm on board with some kind of rate-limited auction house (eg, you need a currency to buy and sell on it and that currency is not tradable).
The funny thing is when trading goes quickly it's basically as fast as an auction house anyways. I was never a big trader and I did my first POE2 trade a few days ago. It must have been a bot I was unknowingly trading with, cause it didn't say anything and invited me into the party like 500 milliseconds after I whispered it. TP to the hideout and the trade took honestly like 20 seconds total. They want trade to have "friction" but if this is what trade is like there's really not much friction honestly. They could build entire systems around this if they really wanted to. Eg your items would take say, 1 real world hour to be transported but since the guy was busy you couldn't place or buy trades during that time. You could have a merchant passive tree that gives you more couriers so you can sell/buy more simultaneously, etc. Just spitballing, didn't think this through very hard. |

i like the trade system. forces you to interact with people, even if its just going to their hideout. creates friction to incentivize not buying everything. auction house would be a lot more comfortable but also a lot less interesting. i had little issue buying and selling stuff. sure you dont always get what you want but you get the next best thing. if anything they should make crafting better so you dont have to go buy gear.
