Feedback on Ritual Encounter Spawning in PoE 2

Hey fellow Exiles,I wanted to share some feedback on the current state of Ritual encounter spawns in Path of Exile 2. While I love the intensity and strategic depth of Rituals, the way they are currently spawning in tight, obstructed areas feels unnecessarily frustrating and at times unfair.

Too often, the Ritual circles spawn in cramped areas with trees, walls, or other environmental blockers that obstruct large portions of the arena. This creates awkward chokepoints where it’s difficult to dodge incoming threats, especially since PoE 2 emphasizes dodge rolls instead of movement skills like Flame Dash or Blink Arrow. Without the freedom to reposition instantly, we’re forced to weave through narrow gaps, which feels clunky and unresponsive.

On top of that, we’re already dealing with Ritual’s own environmental hazards, like delayed explosions, AoE effects, and waves of enemies. Fighting these mechanics while also battling bad arena layouts makes the encounter feel more punishing than challenging. It’s less about skill and more about luck of the spawn location.

Suggestions for Improvement:

Enforce Open Spaces for Rituals: Ensure that Ritual circles spawn in open, flat areas with minimal environmental obstructions.

Dynamic Circle Placement: If an area has too many obstacles, shift the Ritual circle’s position to a more accessible part of the map.

Allow for Partial Obstruction, But Not Full Blockage: If some parts of the circle have cover, that’s fine — it can create interesting strategic play. But if more than 30-40% of the circle is blocked, it becomes frustrating.

I’d love to hear if others are experiencing the same issues with Ritual spawns. Do you think the current design adds to the challenge in a good way, or is it just bad RNG? Let me know your thoughts!

strongly agree with this,ritual atm in high maps is a death trap.
Agreed, ritual events create way too tight of a circle and 99.9% of my deaths are due to being body blocked and trapped in a corner by mobs because they literally spawn right on top of you. ritual events aren't the only event with this problem too. Currently playing as a ranger so I'm not sure what other classes experiences are with this but its honestly so unfair I've considered just avoiding them altogether in maps. Maps are already too punishing with deaths by causing you to lose the map and a large potion of your experience on top of that.

I would second the idea of increasing the radius of the event/not putting it in areas that are full of trees or other movement inhibiting things.

I would also suggest preventing mobs from spawning directly on top of you because that just causes them to push you into corners in most cases then you die... losing exp and your map.

I really hope these issues get resolved because as time progresses and you get into even higher tier maps this problem will get even worse.

I'd be happy to get better visual clarity. While deliberately releasing "smoke" as part of the ritual type is fine & dandy if it obscures "purple crap" on the ground I'd like to know that.

FYI: I'm a life build, my Chaos res isn't maxed, so clearly seeing purple stuff is handy.


Side effect: I just played around with ritual AFTER I completed the map. Doubling back for something I knew was dangerous did wind up killing more time and not just me :)


Feedback: Permanently pin the location of Rituals on the map once discovered. I noticed that the "ritual is here" marker didn't even show on my map and I clearly saw the circle on the ground ...

I think this clip says it better than I ever could. Ritual is bad in PoE2. I've not seen anyone who doesn't think it's a death trap. In this particular case, I mean that quite literally.
I have a strong feeling that rituals deliberately spawn it the worst places possible. Even in the wide and open map like Steppe, 3 of 4 rituals spawns near the map's edge, obstructed by the few walls available.
It just doesn't work for me, like already said most times its super tight, it's just been made a cancer mechanic.
Get circled and boxed in by mobs super fast if they just dont spwan in a circle around from the go, in some stupidly tight circle that usually has vases or some other scenic object stuck in it somewhere so you cant even float round it and kite and then add some tornado or blood waves that take up nearly half the circle at this point it may aswell just insta kill you when you touch the altar and have the mist king laugh.

I swear they forget they took phasing out, while i am half n half about phasing the whole body blocking business is starting to get kind of old, its fine for campaign you can adjust but when stuck in mechanics that are spawning huge amounts of mobs it really starts to wear thin especially if they aren't going to even give you any space to actually manoeuvre around.
