Physical aegis not working

First of all I picked up the Primal Aegis from the Bastion of Elements ascendancy passive in the Elementalist skill tree. Later I found a Gastly Theatre Teak Round Shield which 'Triggers level 20 Physical Aegis when equipped'.

I see nothing indicating the presence of the Physical Aegis when the shield is equipped.

I do see an icon at the top right for the Primal Aegis, that tells how much protection is left.

I cannot find anywhere that the Physical Aegis is active.

Firstly, can I have both Aegis active at the same time?

Second, how can I tell if the Physical Aegis is active.

The Primal Aegis is active all the time so I cannot stop it to check for the Pyhsical Aegis without the Primal Aegis running.
