I am just a bit confused about it, because I feel like most loot, even rare, has already lost its magic for me...
I remember back when we played Diablo 2, and getting a blue in every Item slot was an achivement...
We often reached the final boss of Act 1 still wearing some white items, and seeing a rare was always a reason to celebrate...
Now looking at my Monk who is about to reach the end of Act 1, I am almost in full rare gear, just missing gloves, an amulet and rings...
I dont think we were full rare even at Baal, the Final Boss of Diablo 2...
And uniques? I belive in my first playthrough I didnt even know they existed, in PoE2 I already disenchanted 2 of them on my Monk and my Mercenary at the Graveyards is wielding a unique Crossbow...
So... this is doing it for you? rares dropping rom what feels like every other mini-boss? (not even talking about quest mobs, just the random named mobs with minions)...
That feels right for you? How loot should be?
You could beat d2 hell with an almost naked sorc/pal/assa. You could also farm bosses with your eyes closed and rushing through a few zones in a couple of minutes yielded more loot than you claim, lol.
D2 is one of the easiest arpgs by today's standards.
It's time to take off these nostalgia googles.

Game is balanced around having capped res, including chaos res. Otherwise we would have this shitty ruthless loot, farming low tier maps forever praying for a res drop upgrade, constantly dying to a random spell we didn't have capped res for in 1 shot, losing our map, losing the node modifiers like boss etc. and constantly getting reset to 0 xp.
Its shit, its why ruthless was fucking dead in PoE1.
People like the feeling of getting stronger while also having something challenging to do, poe2 has that more than poe1 ever will already. Hitting a brick wall that can only be solved by gear (bad resists etc.) is just terrible design.
lol this was not the case in ruthless in poe1 at all.... the only 'brick' wall was map sustain. this felt really bad because you could progress to higher difficulty but it was rng gated so you had to spec all atlas into maps. btw those bricks were more like noodles, but like very sticky unpleasant noodles you don't want to touch...
you also had resists all over the passive tree, you didn't need to get attributes on gear, or chaos res. And even the nerfed ascendancies in ruthless offered more power. You weren't punished nearly as hard for dying either.

I'm honestly really disappointed in GGG for caving so soon to the mob in terms of the increase of loot. It is far too early to say whether or not loot is in a good place, as players optimize their play style over time as they adapt to their surroundings. They need more conviction and I thought the game was fine with loot the way it was. I'm not a no lifer who rushed to maps by day 2 though. Maybe it gets worse, or maybe the people trying to end the game as fast as possible aren't the people we should listen to for making decisions.
I was both lent down and surprised how massive that loot buff was. i expected them to buff orbs at most... after all that talk about crafting and removal of scour orbs, and scarcity etc etc, it took them few days to just dump bunch of chaos in the world... bizzare
Same here, too much too soon. Why? Other than that is the GGG way. Not sure why we should've expected something different from the same team that made these kinds of decisions for a decade in 1.

Gear in diablo 2 was nowhere near the bottleneck it is in poe2
But what has d2 got to do with poe2, if I wanted to play d2 it's still available, they even remastered it

Best post I've read so far in this forum.

"We were not in full rare at baal"
You could have been. Full of trash rares. Guess what PoE 2 seems to be right down the D2 alley this way. You don't drown in rares, but you can get some.
Most of the time, a good blue will beat out a rare, and most of the time I am happy over a white item dropping rather than a random rare I don't want to use. Since the correct white base at least has some potential.
Maybe you are confused because we can technically upgrade all our blue items into rares with the currency we get, but honestly, that is better saved for later acts unless they buff the droprate a little more during the campaign.

That’s simply not true - a blatant lie. Unless, of course, you’ve always been a speedrunner.

Nope, this is pretty much my experience as well when the game released. Which is why I found it quite amusing that the same people who were crying about the lack of loot in the first few days were saying "even D2 had better loot".
Probably they increased the loot a bunch in later versions though.

this guy doesn't even know what he's talking about.
He doesn't even know that whatever build he has is trash and will get stomped. Act 1 can be done with any trash gear with any build.
Once you hit some gear checks you'll realize if you had no drops you would be stuck. Then you'd have to farm and get frustrated.
You probobly do t even understand crafting either so you have no clue what you are talking about.
The whole short term dopamine gain nonsense, is not it at all.
When you get out of tutorial act 1, and you hit the gear check and you die over and over you'll understand.
Like your not even playing the game yet. Gl without capped rez and random ass build.

I played Diablo 2 back in 2000 when I was 8 years old—there was nothing like that back then
