Nerf is Understandable, but Free Respec is a Must to Keep Players Engaged

I totally understand that nerfs are a part of the game and are necessary for balance, but I think we need a bit more flexibility when it comes to respecs. Early access is all about experimenting with builds and figuring out what works, and with constant nerfs, it can feel like a big setback if we can’t easily adapt without losing everything we’ve worked for.

The current system feels punishing when nerfs hit, especially when they come just after we’ve spent a lot of time tweaking a build. A free respec option would go a long way in letting us continue enjoying the game without feeling like we’ve wasted our time or have to quit entirely and start over again. It’s hard to stay invested when you feel like you’re being punished for doing well.

In the end, the whole point of early access is to keep playing and provide feedback so GGG can continue improving the game. Giving us the ability to quickly adapt to changes without making us restart would really help with that, and ultimately keep the player base engaged.

Why? If I make a build and it’s broken I don’t get a free respec. 🤷‍♂️

It’s EA get used to this.

That sounds a lot like the “it’s PoE2, not PoE1” crowd doesn’t it? Sucks when it’s effecting you doesn’t it.

wow. what a fucking response.

Sorry op, some people are just rude. If you look around, a lot of people feel the same way. We'll see what ggg does.
I agree, but only up to level 50 and only during Early Access. I think something like that, or much lower cost to respect. I have not needed a respec, but I might if things do not change for my particular character. My biggest problem is the huge lack of decent gear. At level 51, and almost into act 5, my reliance on picking up magic items to check if good, is starting to wear on me. Few exalt drops is crushing too.

Bit of an odd take. I think during the EA process AS MUCH content should be explored as possible. Respec helps a shut ton with that.

I think respec should be free for all in EA. I don’t think respecs should be handed out differently for people that had over-tuned skills nerfed. Since they aren’t free for all, everyone pays.

But isn't the point of EA to prepare the game for release? I usually prefer when respecs aren't free in RPGs, because it gives some weight to spec choices and also prevents respecing at any time to morph your character to each encounter instead of playing and making your build for everything you want your character to be able to do.

I get where you're coming from, and I agree that having some weight behind your build choices is important. That said, in an early access phase, things are still being adjusted and balanced. The challenge with nerfs, especially right after players invest time into a build, is that it can feel demotivating when we’re constantly forced to adapt.

A free respec wouldn't mean we’re changing builds for every encounter, but rather giving us a chance to stay engaged without the fear of a big setback after each nerf. It’s more about making sure the player experience isn’t disrupted too much during these balance changes. In the long term, I think this would actually help us commit more to a build and enjoy the process without feeling like we wasted progress.

Just my two cents! Would love to see how this balances out in the final release.
I literally said I think respecs should be free for all. I’m just not willing to agree that a free respec should happen because GGG balanced an over powered skill.
Nah it wasn't a nerf. It is a game mechanic removal. Not really upset about having to do an expensive re-spec. But having a 95% reduction is not a normal way of dealing with an overpowered skill gem.
