Ascendancy Trials in POE2 make the game completely unbearable and unfun.

I love the fact that this thread has been around since the game initially went into early access and absolutely NOTHING has changed about the ascendency trails.
They are a shoehorned mechanic that simply doesn't belong. They aren't hard, they aren't difficult - they are simply tedious and unrewarding. However, at this point I think its safe to say that the devs aren't going to change it so if you don't like it...stop playing the game. Once enough people stop playing they'll either change it or die on that hill. Me? I'll be over in Last Epoch having a blast. My Raptor Beastmaster is amazingly fun. Who doesn't want a T-Rex as a pet? |

I'm tired, I really need to get this off my chest.
The Trials is so bad, having to rely on luck? Seriously? Taking 10 negative boons just for moving, chasing merchants and hoping for damage, farming relics to take less damage and increase honor... what a ridiculous idea, what a step backward. Ultimatum is even worse, there’s no difficulty progression, just 10 torture chambers where all the negative boons are maxed out. I'm sick of this design that hates melee, but look up there, the clown says he did it easily with War Cry... since when is War Cry melee? Holy fuck!. Check PoE.ninja to see how many people are playing melee compared to spell and ranged builds, and you’ll see that the philosophy of "PoE 2 will fix melee" is a total failure. The PoE 1 Labyrinth is a masterpiece superior to LOTR compared to this pile of garbage you delivered in PoE 2. Chris was right to jump out; the PoE 1 philosophy is nowhere to be seen since Tencent took over the company. Now it’s all about graphics and cosmetics, but of course, the fans only see what they want or what their favorite streamers tell them to. Good luck to anyone who still believes in this company. |

It's really that simple, they knew very well that only a tiny fraction of the playerbase interacts with Sanctum but clearly that wasn't good enough for them so it became ascendancy trial in this game instead, to force pretty much everyone to interact with it and the way the trials are built, either you do a Sekhema trial or you wait 10+ levels for your first ascendancy points which feels incredibly bad in a game where low damage is a constant reminder of how poor the loot game is. |

to be honest, as a disapointed hater of sekhema, yesterday I got my second invitation at lvl 82. I really didnt wanted to do it, but I had saved some exalts and past few days was enjoying trade system and so I tried my luck with trading some better cheap relics, focusing on maxing resistance and increased defences {which actually increases honour}. I was able with just 3 relics to max resistance and get +50% defences, gaining my honour to 14000. With that I went in with no expectations (I already failed previously with 10k honour, which was reduced to 5k right before the 3rd boss with affliction I didnt know at that time has effect on hounour). This time I watch all afflictions to come my way, praying not to get any endgamers that would appear all at once: reduces player speed, defences and honour and hidden afflictions. I was lucky enough to be able to pass all of them even if all of them at some point appeared on the trial tree. In the end I actually had fun. Redoing first 2 floors is not that great, I would prefer if you could jump right to the floor where you failed last time (redoing first and even the second floor is very easy compared with the third floor at lvl 82 anyway and makes little sense, you are forced to do it). Having to buy relics is also bad concept for SSF, at current drop rate of barya (in 50+ hours just 2 drops, the 3 trial version should be much more common, if you are suppose to hunt the relics you need to pass it if you cannot buy them, actually I think it should be free, or not consume the barya if you fail, so it would be on par with the 3rd labyrinth in poe1, which you can also run repeatedly). Finally, bad, gameending afflictions should be always avoidable with some planning, to reduce bad RNG. Other than that, as I said, in the end the 3rd floor was fun, I had my heartrate at 200 all the time running gaultlet trials (as I couldnt avoid them without taking undesirable aflictions) and it felt much more like running final labyrinth in POE1, where you also are not that much powerfull and wondering if Izario oneshots you.
So I think I get the vision now, it just needs some tweaks i mentioned. But to be honest, in the end there should be 3rd new trial for 3rd ascendancy anyway (right now its just placeholder, that you have to do sekhema twice), so maybe all these discusions about how anoying sekhema is will be meaningless once all trials are released, and even the abysmal drop rates of invitations will be solved, because then they will correspond to the 4th labyrinth in poe1, which also needs an invitation which is not that common. If there was no honor to deal with, I'd probably play that game mode once in a while instead of only the one time for the ascendencies. Maybe if it had a bit more deterministic rewards/crafting too.
Like I enjoyed the labs in poe1, you could either try to run it as fast as possible, or take your time to look for keys and blessings and figuring out small puzzles. Like if you're melee, the honour thing is just stupid imo. get shot closing in the distance to ranged enemies. take damage from leaping melee enemies and/or everything that managed to dodge your AOE. get a particuliarly tanky rare enemy that is the perfect resist against your build. honour gone. |

the trial are trash game design because that's their level of capability and all they could muster. why design something fun and intelligent when you can just stack negative numbers on the player? This is literally anti-player and anti-fun game design.
the kiss-curse design is really getting old, especially when ascending is not even that rewarding and powerful. for the most part, it's just incremental. Absolutely pathetic! DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MORE MONEY UNTIL CHANGED! VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET! |
