[PoE2] Blood Mage - Sanguimancy Hexblast/Chaos Bolt - Constant overflow - Stop killing yourself

Due to amount of posts complaining about Blood Mage and people killing themselves with their own spells, which I don't understand, I decided to post my build, so it may help someone. I think playing this class comes to one simple rule, people seem to not get: if you have overflow - you spam high cost skills; if you don't - you spam low cost skills until you get it back. Build Energy Shield to protect overflown life so it gives you constant crit damage. This guide is aimed towards players who think they bricked their character after 1st ascendancy and make angry reddit posts, to show them, hate to say it, it's more of a skill issue than anything else. People try to spam high cost spells at all time, even when they don't have life overflow and they just kill themselves. It's not even crazy optimized, calculated, highest dps build ever, it's just a build that works.

My main damage skill is Hexblast and most important support for it is Inspiration so it's more spamable. Other skill is Blasphemy with Despair and Enfeeble curses in it. My gameplay is basically running in the middle of the monsters, pressing Hexblast and watching them die. Remnants spawn in the same place so it instantly overflows my life. Grim Feast and few ES nodes in the tree to generate insane amount of ES and help keep the overflow full at all time. For bosses I use Hexblast whenever I have overflow. When I don't have overflow, I spam Chaos Bolt from my wand instead, as it has literally zero mana/life cost! Something like Bonestorm on physical weapon swap probably could work too for bosses as it has low cost, high damage and crit so it generates Remnants. I think this is the part where people struggle the most, and it's literally using a second button sometimes. Gain extra life, spend it to cast powerful spells, gain it back - simple gameplay loop. All other skills I have are situational. Temporal Chains with Cursed ground is great for clearing towers or groups of ranged monsters, as you can Hexblast them all from distance. Dark Effigy does good job at quickly applying Wither to tougher rares and bosses so you can kill them faster. Profane Ritual with Unleash gives you three power charges at once, so you can spend them with Potential support.

TLDR: Hexblast when group, Chaos Bolt when single target

Just stack spirit, maximum life, es and crit. Life regeneration is useless, as you want to be on constant overflow anyway. Omen Sceptre is preferable as it gives Critical Weakness.

Next thing I want to try is to build a weapon swap tree for physical damage and Bonestorm, just to have option to quickly burst through a single target and build stun on bosses quicker, but can't say how it performs until I make it. Chaos Bolt works well enough for now.

EDIT: Updated gem list and added new video of t15 map and boss.

Hi, just gave your version a try and (with still severely lacking health/es pool and some crit) its still quite fun.
Decided to not use CoC and Blink for now, so I can use Oaksworn for Shieldcharge and have enough Spirit for the rest - might have a look at weaponswap shinanigans for that tho.

Other things that I kept from my old ED/Contagion build:
- Chaotic Freeze on Essence Drain with Arcane Tempo/Leverage/Deep Freeze on Chaos Bolt
- Zone of Control Cluster for more Curse AoE
- Dark Entries for +1 Chaos (which is why I'm lacking some critnodes)

Thanks a lot for the Post - helped me find the way :D
I am building something similar but i am only 41 so far so just got hexblast. I was trying out spell echo and unleash which doesnt seem to work with blasphemy. But does it work when u have 2 or more curses? I guess not but good to know for sure :)
Blasphemy applies curses in aura so I don't see any sense in using Unleash or Spell Echo here. Unleash is nice on Profane Ritual as it can give you 3 charges instead of 1, so if you have any way to consume power charges like Potential support or Bonestorm, it's very nice.
I see you using potential on the chaos bolt/hexblast, but I'm not sure how you're getting your power charges? Feels like a wasted slot otherwise, unless I'm missing something.
Wonderful I will try this gem set up on my build I stacked lots of very so I can freeze enemies some gems I need to rearrange as well , thank you for the great ideas I was lost in maps .
I DO IT FOR THE BOOTY!

Profane Ritual gives a charge
Just came upon this build while doing a phys bloodmage.

Have you tested out The Burden of Shadows Chiming staff?
Unsure of the wording "1% of damage as chaos damage", as it says neither converted nor extra? Also it gives you blood magic for free, and seems to just fit well with bloodmage.

Also adding a third curse in blasphemy with doedre's damning would increase damage a bit.
I haven't tested the staff as I have pretty good Chaos Bolt wand with +4 to chaos skills and sceptre for spirit. But I'm definitely gonna play around with this ring, thank you for suggestion!
Do you just deal with the fact that most of the stats on sceptre is just for others? I would love to run discipline as well but you lose too many stats
