What happened to Chris Wilson?
" Well said. |

" times have changed. i find it ironic using fast travel as an example of removing friction. are you telling me, you've never used the "quit poe to respawn back in town to save a town portal" trick? have you stopped using townportals entirely and run back to a maps starting area every single time? are you telling me you've never used a waypoint in POE or refused to use em? i m pretty sure you have. if those are examples of bad game design to you, i m glad you're not a game designer. " yes i agree. but it matters to me because it's disrespectful to say someone said something when they didn't. especially when chris is one of the core founding fathers for poe "Path of Exile's engine is currently modern, lean and fast." - Chris Wilson, September 19th, 2019
"It looks like we broke something with 3.10.0. We don't know what it is yet." - Bex, March 16th, 2020 |

"For me the free town portals in PoE 2 are a lot better then all these options. It would be nice if we could somehow make it faster though. |

" How you gonna try to casually slip Auction Houses in there, lol. Plenty of games with an AH are still successful to this day. WoW is a good example. I don't care if you like it or not. It is a successful game, still, and it still has an AH. You don't go to the fucking grocery store because you want a social experience with the cashier. I promise you - I PROMISE YOU - not a single person is whispering PoE players for their trade lots, saying to themselves, "I love this. This is a key part of my gaming experience. I love this, and I cannot wait to bond with this player." It's such a farce. |

" This is an argument of degree which I agree with. When I mentioned "fast travel" I'm not talking about reasonable waypoints (or even POE2's checkpoints) or campfires in Darksouls, save games in X-com, starting at the begining of the newest level you reached in Mario instead of at the first level of the whole game like Boshi; or similar. I very much agree that there's such a thing as too much retreading. I am talking about systems (usually open world survival crafters and MMO's) that completely remove the need for traveling around in the world that make it feel empty instead of vibrant and alive. " You're talking about the underlying reason for "content locusts" which is entirely true and I agree. But I'm talking about the very distinct irony of complaining about GGG's "vision" here in this forum, instead of playing the plethora of games that tick all their low friction boxes; and don't feature "the vision". Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4. If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years. Its astonishing how many people still dont know this.
They sold compleetly to Tencent and pieced out in March. This is no longer the GGG we knew. That shows in the curent events. Nothing for Poe1 and nothing for Poe2 wich is in early acces and needs to be updated and fixed daily. Thats why nothing is done and we get slop. Its a cashgrab at this point. They wilkl ride the reputation build over the years untill exausted and thats it. We will get mid shit at best. I mean whoever suports this will eat the mid stuff. |

" Social aspects aren't the most important reason for friction in a trade system. The main issue is that your game about killing monsters to get their loot becomes about earning a currency to go shoppping. Every AH equipped MMO I've played has always ended up being more efficient to go shopping than play the game. Also every single of of them is filled with credit card min/maxers. Its the reason why people care about SSF. Its clear that core gamers tend to value SSF accomplishments over ones which might be swipped. And success of a game has nothing to do with it. McDonalds sells the most burgers, does that prove their burgers are the most well made and delicious? The real question highlighted by the irony I pointed out is: Why are you not playing a game with an AH and instead of playing a game created with "vision"? " Show me a picture of the last good yellow item you've ID scrolled, lol. Funny how the whole thing collapses based on this challenge, right? " Preemptive double standard, by the way. Because we both know that if I called PoE a bad game, you would say that it evidently is not, due to its ongoing market success. Last edited by ShadyC#1006 on Feb 3, 2025, 6:41:17 PM

" Two things, first you're assuming the present (shitty) ground loot situation is the ideal, or that I think its ideal (very much not the case). And second you're supposing that GGG intends a very high end gear standard to beat the game. Neither of these are the case IMO. Funny how the whole thing collapses when you understand GGG's assumptions aren't the same as yours. " Well I can't blame you for not knowing this but that Mcdonalds analogy is my favorite go to, that I've used and reused for many years on this forum; (even multiple times in the last week). Plenty of bad games sell well, just look at D4. Thats not to say I wont look at popularity as a metric of anything (quality can cause popularity, but popularity doesn't reverse cause quality. D4 sold tons of copies its got a huge installed base... yet it's seasons die in 2 days: Because it lacks quality game design aka "vision" Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
