POE 2 Complete PC Freeze while loading screen

I had the same problem.

MSI MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI (It's important, you'll see why later)
i5-12400
3060Ti
32GB at 6000 Mhz
No overclocking
Windows 11 24H2

3-4 loading screeens out of 10 were intentionally crashing Windows. I could hear game music, the cursor was moving, but Windows was not responding to any key. On Tuesday, as I was going through the finale of the A2, the frequency of hang-ups increased to one in two.

But I think I was able to solve the problem in my case.

Reading this thread, I saw that some respected commenters write that it could be a problem in the processor microcode.

So I looked to see if there was an update for my motherboard BIOS. There was an update 7E25vA80 (about 3 versions newer than my BIOS version).

The description said that CPU microcode 0x12B was updated.
There was also a new version of ME Firmware (ver: ME_16.1.32.2473).

I downloaded and installed both. After the BIOS update, the settings were reset, but I restored them to the same values (also without overclocking).

And after all these manipulations I played A3 for just under three hours yesterday (Wednesday) - and the game did not hang once. Moreover, the loading of locations was noticeably faster. There was still a spike in CPU temperature during loading, but the locations loaded without any problem and much faster than on Tuesday and earlier.

I don't know what helped: BIOS update, ME firmware update, BIOS reset and reconfiguration, moving to the A3 or something, but it worked for me. At least it did yesterday!

I really hope it's the same today!
Before the Patch, I could play by disabling the Multithread before loading a zone. Now, it crashes literally every 2 minutes, not even on load screens.

rtx 4070 ti
Intel i7-13700KF
32GB Ram
Still same issue

My friend with a setup is 2 times weaker than mine, most likely has no idea that what you listed can be updated, and I'm sure he's never done it in the last few years. lol
And he doesn't have this hang-up problem! He has been playing calmly since the start. =)

Hello,

I, and many others, experience complete PC freezes while randomly loading into the zones - requiring hard PC reboot.

I do not have this issue in other games. That said, I had several PC freezes in POE 1 a few days ago when I wanted to check some MTX, so either 24H2 caused that or some of the recent POE 1 patches, as the original Settlers league had zero issues for 200 hours.

Nvidia 4080 Super
AMD 7800x33
Windows 11 24H2

EDIT 1:
Using BES CPU Limited (limiting CPU usage to 95% on POE 2) heavily reduce the frequency of the freezes at loading screen.
Removing (set affinity) some CPU cores from POE 2 process prevents the entire PC from freezing, only causing the game to freeze, allowing to close it when freeze happens.

EDIT 2:
Patch 0.1.0b has NOT fixed the PC freezing issue.

Hi everyone, whilst we have already been investigating this issue already, it would be massively helpful if you could provide your dxdiag output by doing the following on windows:

run > dxdiag > save all information

and sending me that file or it's contents in a private message.

Thanks!

EDIT 4:
I decided to fully format my computer and install Windows 23H2
Guide here: https://pureinfotech.com/download-windows-11-23h2-iso-after-24h2/

I'm tired of waiting ...

I'll let you know if this has made the freezing disappear as I expected.

EDIT 5:
So far zero freeze on Windows 23H2.
If you are willing to do clean windows instalation, I would go for it. There is high chance it stop the freezes and you can update to 24H2 once proper fixes are for download.

If you are running a AMD car i would highly recommend not swapping to Win 23h2 and get less performance. Win 24h2 is more optimized twoards gaming and the issue lays with GGG not yet fixing the problem. Im running AMD 7 7800X3D and was thinking of swapping to 23h2, but the pc tech guy i know said against it. Basically that issue lays with GGG not yet fixing the problem.
GGG needs to take responsibility and admit there's a critical issue in their game engine instead of deflecting blame to the Windows 24H2 update.

It's unprecedented for a game to completely freeze an entire PC, forcing users to perform hard resets via the physical button. This level of system failure is unacceptable.

We should bring this to the attention of tech YouTubers to raise awareness about this serious issue.

This problem poses a genuine risk of hardware damage to users' systems!

Bro feels like the main character. Ouh GGG is scared now. Lol.

This isn't about being a 'main character', it's about a technical issue affecting multiple users. Hardware damage from forced restarts is a legitimate concern.

yeah only way i am able to play is using the BES limiter. Didn't want to use a 3rd party software just to play but its the only thing that works atm. Have to set poe2 limit to atleast 10-14% tho. Some town portals still rough and freezes. https://mion.yosei.fi/BES/

Sorry but that's not a fix, it will still happen, maybe you'll be able to play more time but it doesnt fix it 100%.
