POE 2 Complete PC Freeze while loading screen

Hi, I thought maybe telling what I did will help others.

Spoiler

First of all, my PC is new-built.

RTX 4070 Ti
Ryzen 7 7800X3D
32GB Corsair RAM
AsRock B650 Steel Legend WiFi

My PC froze, since the beginning of the Early Access and I was worried that something is wrong with my hardware. But by testing other games and letting a friend of mine run PoE 2 too, with a similar rig to mine, I knew that there is no hardware issue on my side.

addressing the dude, that tells everyone their RAM is broken and PoE 2 is the only way to find out, like a deep-check, if something is wrong with it. No, it definitely isn't a RAM issue, maybe some rare cases do get these errors cause of their hardware, but majority isn't.

MY SOLUTION (?):

Since that friend of mine crashed and he told me he is on Windows 11 23H2, I didn't believe that downgrading to 23H2 will fix the problem. I read that a lot of people said this happened since a while now, also in PoE 1.

Keeping that in mind, I decided to go for 22H2, I got the ISO from UUP dump. If some of you are willing to try the same, there are several guides out there on how to build the ISO file. Since my PC was still pretty "clean" - trying wasn't an issue.

I flashed an USB Stick with Rufus with the 22H2 ISO-File and re-installed my Windows, deleting everything. If you do the same, keep in mind to disconnect your ethernet cable, otherwise Windows will automatically try to go for 23H2 (Happened to me once, had to re-install again)

After installing Windows, all I did was downloading the drivers from NVIDIA (the latest) - the AMD Chipset Drivers, LAN/Bluetooth/WiFi Drivers restarted my PC and downloaded PoE 2. I didn't touch any of the game settings, I just tried my luck and I "stresstested" restarting PoE, like 15 times. Loading from Waypoint to Waypoint, switching areas and no PC freeze. I had discord running and Opera GX, also no freeze.

Since then everything is running fine and AFAIK the only problem is everything loading-related, being in an area and playing never caused a freeze, atleast for me and some others.

!IDK if this is important for anyone, but because it's working right now, I'm not running Wallpaper Engine anymore and I didn't try yet. I'm really unsure at the moment what exactly causes this problem to happen. Need to test this out more.

Will edit my post, if the freeze returns magically, fingers-crossed that it stays like that. I'm happy to help some of you out and will post this on other threads and red

I'll post my game settings here, that automatically came with starting the game, maybe this will help some of you:

I am on Win 10 22H2. I have been hard crashing since Day 1.
I cannot send/reply to direct messages because my in-game character has not finished Act 1.
What to do:
1)Write a short review about the hard crashes in notepad.
2)Copy and paste it to steam reviews, put up a negative review.
3)Copy and paste it to steam discussions, put it up there.
I think it's pretty safe to say at this point that virtually everything rational has been tried.
PoE2: A good, giving game
Hard crashing after 30-40 mins

RTX 3080 TI
I7-12700K
Windows 11
32GB RAM
Crashing everyday.

I'm on Windows 11 22H2, not Windows 10
Im gonna say this again and then last time back to playing game. ive literally tried everything here. This is the only thing that worked 100%, if it doesn't work for you then it's likely a different issue than most are having here.

Before reinstalling windows with this ISO, i hard froze ever other load and crashed to desktop occasionally. After several (game closed out, pc restarted, taking breaks) 3+ hours long sessions I havent had a single crash or freeze since the reinstall.

Heres where you get the ISO. https://os.click/en/Windows:Windows_11:23H2 copy and paste the link. If you are on 24H2 version of windows 11 this is a MUST to fix the problem if you cannot revert back to 23H2 like I couldn't.

Make sure you back up all the files you need because its a fresh install if you cannot revert back.

After installing the new OS and drivers plus use this https://www.grc.com/incontrol.htm to stop windows from ever updating to 24H2 until you are ready.

Good luck. Though it may not solve everyone's issue, it will certainly solved some like it did mine.
The "easiest" (but still sad) solution is to disable SMT (if you have an AMD cpu of course). Went into the bios, disabled it, booted Windows (11 24H2, you know it) and loaded POE2. ZERO crash but it did slow down once to the point I thought the system was about to crash, yet it came back to life after a good 2-3 seconds pause (whatever is loading, seems its taking absolutely all the juice).

7800X3D
4070 Ti Super
Windows 11 24H2

So I lost 8 "virtual" cores, not the end of the world, in game was even able to reach my max 240hz here and there. Until GGG fix this for real, I guess disabling SMT will do. (no I will not reinstall or use specific apps, simpler just to disable half the cpu, hmm!)

People have already reported they've rolled back and reinstalled and still had the issue resurface. Also people who have never been on 24h2 experiencing it rules out it being "the" factor. Just like every other fix being touted here, majority are very temporary if not just placebo. Glad you're able to play but this is not a fix, even if it does work it is called a workaround and a very extreme one at that. GGG needs to remedy the underlying cause. Also I advise anyone attempting this check your sources for random ISO's.

Edit: also if you're going to attempt this be wary of using anything outside of windows itself to stop automatic updates.

At this point its becoming apparent that it's the game client not anyone's hardware or OS. During load screens I've seen my CPU usage spike to 100% then taper off with no other extra programs running. It has mostly been happening on AMD CPU which I use as well a 5900x. It also started happening a lot more for me after the 0.1.0d patch. It is early access but to have this many players experiencing the same issue is a huge problem. I suggest to everyone who is having this issue to just stop playing until its resolved. It sucks but if you want to keep gambling on whether your PC is going to crash is up to you.
Still having this issue for me as well. Pretty frustrating as it doesn't just crash the game, but the entire PC for me and I have to do a hard reset.
