DO NOT make your own build in EA
I'm not a poe 1 player. I created my own builds in PoE 2: lightning monk, physical monk, hybrid monk, bow-monk. They all worked well.

Every build shouldn't be able to do top tier content. The whole idea of this kind of game is to have different skill levels in players topping out at different parts of the game. Better players can go further. Poorer players can't, unless they copy better players successfully.
The mistake many of the entitled make is thinking they should be able to go as far as better players. If you can't work out a good build, you will get as far as your build is good. Top players make very good builds, and thus go further. I mean exactly the same principle in POE 1 and 2. Designing your build is part of the skill requirement. And you can make it up as you go, but as with most things in life planning works better, and your progress will reflect that.
